Dogworld is running an online poll

'Should the German Shepherd Dog breed lose the word 'Alsatian' from its official name? '

http://www.dogworld.co.uk/Home.aspx

Currently running at 2 for 2 against

by Doppelganger on 24 June 2010 - 08:06

I have put the link on an all breed forum -  asking how would people feel if the KC tagged a totally irrelevant name on to their breed?

by Doppelganger on 24 June 2010 - 08:06

Been wondering, if the KC see sense and change the name will they make those clubs who do not use it change theirs?  That will put the cat amongst the pigeons.  Lets see Roy Brandon get round that one.

Although its irrelevant to everyone wanting to show the German way, come on get voting!  Its time Joe Public realised the true name of the breed and the KC stopped clouding the issue.

am i right in saying the word ' Alsatian' was ''dropped'' in 1972 in the uk its the older generation( 50+) due to the fact people grew up hearing that name. Its only people who know abit about dogs that will call it the gsd

Dont know Steve about the history of it, I`ve heard several differing reasons - but there is only one breed here, that originated in Germany, not the UK - and what other country in the world has re-named a dog that didnt originate from that perticular country.

Imagine ..............                  German Shorthaired pointer/Alsation

It is as daft as that  -  the word Alsation was invented, not bred.   Lets get rid, lets at least vote and lets see if for once, the KC take heed of the majority.

Doppleganger - Thanks for cross posting.  It will be most interesting to see what the 'other breeds' think about this.

A poll that i missed also ran by dogworld was;-

'Where official health schemes are available, should it be compulsory for both parents to be tested before their progeny are registered by the Kennel Club?'

In this poll which I suspect was voted on by the 'other breeds' an overwhelming 217 voted for, while a measely 11 voted against.

Come on folks you only have to click on the link on the op and cast your vote, no registration is required but you can only vote once.
