Some dogs seem to be genetically predisposed to clean teeth, and that's a good thing ;-) Personally, nylabones/dental chews/brushing didn't work for my collie, who had brown molars at 4 years old. After switching her to raw, my vet was astounded at how good her teeth were. I still got her a dental cleaning to get rid of the stuff below the gum line. Wish I had pictures...

Edit again: I should mention that my GSD had perfectly white teeth on kibble, so no discernible difference in his case when switched from kibble to raw.

Ruger1 - Dragon is also a dark sable, and like my dog he seems to carry black recessive. Dragon's coat appears to be fuller (I think he carries for long coat?). I suppose some people call it "black sable" when they carry black...though some people only seem to call really really dark sables "black sable" and don't pay attention to the recessives. It's all sable, whatever descriptions are attached to it.

edit: Thanks Ramage! :)

GRAIN/carbs are the usual culprits for bad teeth. Grain-free kibbles will often be all a dog needs to keep plaque off teeth.

Ruger, my Ava? Ava vom Eisenherz or Avasha vom Eisenherz or do you mean Elkoorr's Ava vom Goldwald?

Elkoorr's Ava is a sable. To be more descriptive, I'd call her "patterned" and "red" but she's a sable. My Avasha is a bicolor. Other Ava is a dark sable as well.

It seems some on here are trying to convert the Kibble feeders to Raw, that is the way i read some posts, However there is nothing proven that i have read that says one is that superior to the other, How many of you Raw feeders go into a supermarket and buy frozen off the shelves or ready made meals for themselves and there families, How many of you Guys eat hot dogs and  other such like fast food, instead of cooking your own meals from fresh produce, and i do not mean occasionally cooking and using fresh produce i mean 24/7.
I have never in my life eaten fast food never once. Now when it comes down to Kibble i feed, since it came out Grain free food is a must,
Now again how many of you Raw feeders would continue to use Raw feeding if you had to pay the Price that i would have to just to feed Raw, of course you will if you are well off but if you are an ordinary working Guy with a family you would think twice, The point of this is it is not what is best way of feeding your dog
It is the cost Factor, Plus if a guy has a dog which is healthy and keeps well and fit on say a Kibble there is no reason to change in fact it is downright stupid to change something which suits the animal, same thing applies to a dog fed Raw do not change what does not need mending

If feeding raw is outside your realm of experience, then you have no way of comparing the two.

says daryehret,

Feeding any Dog Raw or otherwise is not rocket science, For me anyway so there is no big deal about that bit, If you know a bit about nutrition and Vitamins and Proteins and Amino Acids and there make up nothing is hard and i certainly do know, i have been feeding and helped to rear animals of all sorts for all my life so feeding a dog Raw would come naturally to me should it arrive to that and i have owned them for 60 years with NO' problems at all. But one thing you do not mention in health is your own Eyes' they tell you everything regards a dogs condition not what food the dog is fed on.
However Do you yourself eat Junk food from the Supermarkets meaning already made up meals Pizzas etc ready made, Do you or your wife cook fresh meals everyday, If not why not.
For you advocate  Raw meat for your dogs then fresh cooked food by your own hand or wife whichever may do it is certainly no different from your Dogs, Or are the Dogs welfare more important that you families heath This is it put in the proper context
and by the way it is not that i have never seen Raw fed dogs in the life time of keeping them. and mine look equally as well as those dogs ever have, and work with as much energy as those dogs have.
so answer the question put to you , i have answered yours.

Howling with laughter reading the last 2-3 days' posts on this thread.

Can anyone tell me if this house would look better, maybe grow a wing, a second bathroom and a few outbuildings, if I fed my dogs something else?

Popping back out.
