Actually missbeeb the last show I was entered at was Southern Counties.  I took my dog for a crap behind a trade stand tent and nearly fell over two people crouching down whistling/calling their dogs in the ring!  People in my other breed were asking me why it was still going on if not allowed.  Ok it was not as bad as it could have been but even people not in the breed could see who was doing it.

OK... 2 out of an entry of 70 plus.  Will you consider attending one of the Regional shows before dismissing them out of hand?

This is supposed to be a thread to invite comments suggestions to be made regarding the possibility of a Champion title being awarded from Regional shows to Health tested, identified dogs, please could we keep on topic and not debate double handling at KC shows, a new thread could be started for that
thanks :)

carol: ALL these issues are 'connected' and 'relevant' to the future developments of our GSD show scene here within the UK.

The KC stance on showing a dog is "if you can't see it, it doesn't matter in the show ring".  The judge is only allowed to judge what he/she can see on the day.  Hypocrisy pure and simple.

Doppelganger
As for double-handling, just walk around the Belgian ring and see how bad their coughs and trembling hands holding keys are. OUTSIDE the ring.  Saw Great Danes being judged the other day with a kennel mate being paraded outside to attract the showing dog's attention.  Hypocrisy again by the KC

Accredited Breeder Scheme.  Dogs have to be Hip Scored - but no top value set.  Dogs have to be elbow scored - but no top value set.  Dogs have to be eye tested - no standard set.   Both the Hip and Elbow levels were recommended to the KC by the Breed Council.   Yet another example of hypocrisy by the KC

The objective of this post is to get as many opinions as possible on the format and structure of a possible British Champion.  Let's not allow ourselves to be distracted from this - it is vitally important for the future health of our breed.

Alyson: Elbow Xrays are OPTIONAL under the KC (unhealthy) Accredted Breeders Scheme.

For ALL classes 12 months and over, I would strongly recommend the following:

5 points for a win

1 point for a second,

with a total of 40 points to gain the title of "British Champion"

and I would go on to suggest a review in 2015

Alyson

I was aware there was no mandatory health tests (or a passing grade) required, it's one of my real bugbears.  I know what can be got away with at a KC show, I just didn't think that there were many in the last couple of years actually still doing it.

I have never cross referenced every entry at every show against each dog's health test though!  If any dogs have done well at the shows on this basis, maybe it's time to publicly 'flog' the KC with that information!

What is the current situation for elbow scoring in the British Breed Survey? Is it required for puppies born from 2011 (I can't remember). Sorry to continue off topic, just for this one area, but something Videx said raised a question in my mind.

Anyhow, just look at how many views the thread has had now, so you should hopefully be getting even more responses now - to look on the bright side.

On this subject of the proposed title of 'British Champion' I may be being dumb but surely the British Champion under the new system is the British Sieger or Siegerin? To call any other dog 'British Champion' invites confusion and derogates from the Sieger title.

If the general idea is to enable people to continue to work towards the title of 'Champion' under the new system because that is what they aspired to under KC regulated shows then the title 'Champion' should be sufficient. Adding the word 'British' to the title suggests an equivalence to the Sieger title which is very undesirable.
