Bob
You are 100% right on that. The talk prior on threads about how much they expect there dogs to protect them and how much they expect from them goes out of the Window and it is then a bad mean dog out of control of the handler etc, What a load of rubbish some talk.
Perhaps in my first post i should have said She may turn and bite, However i can honestly say this, If my Dog did not stand up for herself then i certainly would lay the Guy out who did it and i would not have said a word to him just smacked him one or two times without any warning . Because it is a stupid and unnecessary thing to do and certainly to a stranger the one doing it gets what he deserves
What does that make me an out of control bad man No, it just proves that i do not appreciate idiots and will not stand for there nonsense. If you play with Fire expect to get Burnt
As for looking around you all the time that is a laugh looking for what if you are watching Dogs work on the field you are not looking for someone to jump on you , I wonder how some minds work at times it is funny really

I had my male GSD at a dog training class. It was the first class, and I'd only had him a few weeks at that point. He was a totally unknown quantity when it came to kids, as he'd mever been exposed to them.

He was sitting calmly as I waited to talk to the instructor.

The dogs and people for the next class were coming in behind me. That was the drill: those leaving were to leave through the back door, while the next class came in the front.

I heard footsteps behind me, but did not bother to turn around. Before I could do anything, a little toddler walked up to my dog, and threw his arms around his neck.

Ranger didn't budge, and seemed glad to be getting the attention.

Then, this guy's brother came in and did the same thing.

The third and oldest boy in the family then came and patted him on the head.

I wanted to have a word with the idiot parents of these kids, but just at that moment, the instructor came over, and I missed my chance.

Another time, I was at a campground, with this same dog tied to my trailer. A little boy came along, and pointed a toy gun at him, and pretended to shoot him with the gun.  I was behind the trailer, getting some water, and by the time I came around to the front the kid was gone.  Ranger wasn't the least upset by the kid, though he might have woofed at him a time or two.

I knew the kid was at the trailer next door, so I went over and asked to speak to him in front of the parents. In a nice, gentle tone I explained to him what a dumb idea it was to point a gun at a dog that MIGHT have been protection trained. The parents thanked me.

In this day and age, our dogs need to be idiot-proof.  I would not take a reactive dog out in public. I could just imagine the damage suit I might have been hit with if Ranger hadn't been so well-behaved.

There's a good reason he's now my service dog.

My big male is not a GSD but rather a Malinois, please do not ever jump at him as it will be a VERY bad mistake on your part.

Smith, I had to pay higher home owners insurance because I had to GSDs in HopeMills, NC. Certain breeds that were deemed dangerous caused homeowners to pay higher rates, that was probably 12 years ago when we were stationed there
