Our girl has a paper fetish.  If we leave the bathroom doors open she'll sneak in and eat the toilet paper off the roll.  She doesn't always swallow it but she loves pulling it along beside her and stringing it down the hallway.  It doesn't matter if you are standing right there.  She will still attempt to bite it and run with it.  I don't have the heart to give a hard correction for this so I consider it my fault she gets ahold of it because I don't always shut the door behind me.  Paper towels or napkins are fair game to her too.  Luckily she hasn't discovered she can reach anything on the counter or the whole roll would be gone. She's pretty good about leaving food alone since we don't feed her people food.  She sniffs at it but a strong "NO" usually does the trick, if not then I remove the temptation to a safer location.

Funny that the GSD seems to enjoy landscaping.  Echo has a particular rock she likes to carry around the yard.  We've tried hiding it but she always locates it so we just let her have it.  She has effectively pruned my rose bush of the old canes.  She really loves biting them off and prancing around with them before she destroys them.  We had an oak tree removed but left the stump.  Several branches shot out of the stump this spring but Echo removed those with much glee.

She will also go through your purse if she can reach it.  She stole a piece of gum from a friend's.  She has taken my sunglass case twice.  The first time she brought it to me, glasses intact.  The second time I caught her with the case, pieces all over the floor, no sign of my sunglasses.  I found them in my purse...still not sure how she managed that but I was very grateful as they are prescripion.  She has also brought me a tennis shoe, carrying it by the shoestring.  She seems to love to find something of mine to bring it to me to see if we can play with it.

Just yesterday morning, my husband was still in bed when I had to turn on the light to find something.  He pulled the pillow over his head to block the light.  Normally Echo goes around to his side of the bed and nuzzles the top of his head.  This time she went around to my side of the bed looking for Paul and just froze.  At first I thought she was just waiting for him to acknowledge her but then I noticed her tail wasn't wagging.  Suddenly she placed her front feet on the bed (a big no-no) and proceded to bark like crazy with her hackles standing straight up.  I grabbed her just before she attacked the killer pillow and removed her from the bedroom.  I thought it was funny but Paul was none to happy about it as he was trying to sleep in.

Onyx ate a 3.75 lb London Broil, frozen solid, styro-foam package and all, at 14 weeks of age.
I thought he was SLEEPING with his back to me on the rear bed of my RV, meat for a dog event 2.5 drive away defrosing in the sink next to the bed.
He was not sleeping.
He suffered no ill effects, not so much as an extra trip outside in the middle of the night, but the BBQ event that night was short on beef.
Now I either put meat in the nuke oven or on top of the fridge to defrost.

My GSP (bless her) once managed to reach the counter surface and licked up a full pot of cooking oil which was used the night before to fry up some chips, leaving a skim of drool as evidence.   Panicked for her health, I called the vets.  Apart from the runs her coat was waterproof for life.  None of the other dogs in the house was as crafty as her and she always look so innocent looking......me? never!!!

My girl has learned that it's very hard to be scolded for 'counter cruising' if all she's doing is rearing up on her hind legs and peering at the counter.  She never touches it with her front paws or her muzzle but she'll check everything out and I can't legitimately fuss her for it.

We have had a few quite expensive incidents over the years.....one very clever girl once managed to open the oven door and steal a virtually whole cooked chicken, everything was gone, including all the bones, the cooking tray spotless. Another time she tried this again, could not open the door and ended up pulling the whole cooker to the ground, breaking the door and eating the chicken again. She also finished a huge pan of soup I sometimes cook for the dogs, managing to leave the big saucepan on the counter without spilling anything - so much for no cooked bones! Another time she ate a packet of frozen salmon I had put to thaw out, still frozen. She did not have any ill effects after any of these incidents! I should say that the dogs are not really allowed in the kitchen on their own, but someone always manages to shut them in accidentally once in a while......... We had a big male who died last year. His favorite trick was to steal toast off the dining room table whenever the owner of the toast had to turn away answer the phone, he has also stolen whole cheeses a few times. We have another female who loves socks - she does not eat them just steals them and leaves them scattered around the house and garden, and if any puppies get hold of them that is the end of the socks...she also steals paper out of the waste paper bins and does sometimes try to eat that! Another time a puppy tugged at the cloth under the TV pulling the TV down to the floor with a crash and destroying it. She was not meant to be there on her own either...usually they are as good as gold when anyone is watching but resisting temptation when alone is not their strong point!!
