Hey all:
Spotted this article online from the Sunday NY Times. Thinks GSD's are on the way out as a breed. I sure don't think so, what say you?

I'm not so sure the majority agrees with the author's personal opinion.

just quick questions for all of you..
she mentioned that the mal's dogs will maybe replace the gsd in search n rescue and maybe a thearpy dog and what not.
but it seems to me that she doesnt know the mal's dog that well to what kind of breed they are...

im my eyes i've only seen acouple.. some good some not..
some handler agressive and some too low drive for sport. more like a bigger lap dog.

aernt mals harder to RETRAIN? and over the top, some uncontrolllable for a thearpy dog?
and even the low drive ones, hard and pain to train??
gsd are well know for all aspects of life.

i have a workingline shepherd.
just turned ayear old, he sleeps outside his crate at night. he knows house rules

he knows the trucks rules. but once i kick his drive on the field or training its great. can a mal do that?
becuase all of them i have seen are always over the top.

once canot judge that the breed is going downhill. first there is working line and showline.
if your narrow it down some people perfer one of them.
so there alot of gsd out there, but 2 different categories of gsd.
so there will be alot. and it doesnt help when people breed them with other breeds for selling.

if gsd are going down hill then why is it always shepherdX when for sale of half breeds dogs.

becuase people want to see that the dog has brains and courage.

in my conslusion she is basing there article on one police department. in one part of the world.
and its wrong and a waste of paper..

hope my vent work alittle haha

The article reads like a middle school essay.  One can only imagine how painful it would be to read an entire book written by this author.

This was posted on the "All Breeds" forum.  I'll post what I said there.  Poorly written article---not a very adept writer.  The author does not know much about the German shepherd breed.

LOL Keith!  You're right--I teach middle and high school students.  My middle school students are much better writers than the author of this article!

Statistics don't lie.  You guys sound a little jealous.
