I've purchased dogs in/outside the US....never had a problem with either one. Workingdogz has a very good point concerning contracts. When I pay for a dog, it's mine to do as I please....period!

Contact Barbara Andersen at Grandcanyonk9 in Arizona. She knows hers stuff and is very honest!!

Good point about the contracts.  Makes sense... I can see both sides actually.  As a breeder it is tough because there are many idiots who want a puppy and want to breed it without doing the work that "should" be done before hand.  As a breeder, it would break my heart to see one of my puppies go on to be used by a BYB to pump out puppies.

FWIW when I was talking about breeders in this country I WAS NOT talking about Kraftwerk or other breeders like that.  I guess I prefer the smaller breeder.  While some do require contracts and sell on limited registration, I know others who do not.

Obviously each person has their reasons for going the route they go... either way thanks for the info and good luck to the OP!

Valerie
We only ever purchase from "smaller" breeders. Very rarely from within the USA, but there have been some.
But most times we have gone across the pond for the very reasons I listed.
And yes, it is a two way street, but at the end of the day, we make our decision as a consumer/buyer not as a breeder.

Breeders that train and title their own dogs, then keep back progeny to continue forward like you have done (and others) are to be commended!

When I bought Mariah, I opted for extensive health clearances and a known quantity over most everything else.......besides, Kim at Just K9s is just up the street about 15 minutes.  I have seen so many pictures of Rookie babies and Tika babies, that I felt much more secure.  Kim and I are not close friends, but we have been acquainted for many years.

Mariah is now 9 months old and a very substantial, well put together bitch.  Big, bold and beautiful.  Lot's of drive and high spirits with no conscience. The open floor plan is much to her liking-so easy to check the counter tops for goodies.  She made off with a whole chicken that was in the sink and did not share it with Pharaoh.  sigh......

Smart, driven dogs keep you young.

That leap of faith is a scary one when you are buying a dog.

I was looking for a male for my female.  I had heard a lot of good stuff about the knowledge of Hans regarding the Czech dogs.  I sent him the pedigree of my female and he said he had the perfect mate for her which was an 11 month old green dog priced at $5,700 and I would take care of shipping/handling.  After I checked out that dogs pedigree I checked out other breeders sites and some had the same lines as this $5,700 green dog that was 11 months old.  I simply told Hans it was too much expense for me as I am trying to put a kid through college and he asked me what my price range was.  At this point I just let it go and I will stick with the breeders in the USA as I found a breeder with similar lines just as good in Joan Ronalder's vomromgermanshepherds and it is not far from where I live as I will be able to drive and check out her dogs in person.  I love the German Shepherds and my 4 year old female Rain is my best friend and to answer the topic "Who do you trust", I would trust Rain with my life! :)

There are some very good and ethical breeders that frequent this website, some post regularly, some only rarely.  I do not breed or sell dogs, but if you want advice feel free to PM me and I will try to steer you in the right direction.

The only ones I trust now are my dogs.  They will never lie....
One lesson I have learned.... NO MATTER who you buy from and what hip rating they have according to paperwork get the hips xrayed as soon as the dog hits the ground.  Better yet email the CMKU and they will be more than happy to give you info on any dog.
