Yeah, right. How about having a sense of right and wrong and not what works best to preserve one's interests. That works for me.

*Rolls eyes* Moves on to threads that stay on topic and are actually about dogs and less about the drama of the week club.

Wow.... How enlightening inmost deed. If "MOST" of the people responding to this thread spent as much time training their dog as they do behind a computer trolling the pdb they might be able to accomplish something. The little pup in my avatar is now 8mo old and will retrieve a dumbell over the hurdle & wall....... :) To the OP.... may I ask why you would prefer czech lines? I can give some good references but none of them are czech oriented kennels. I've noticed that many people who want czech lines are missinformed and believe czech lines are harder & stronger dogs. Nothing could be further from the truth. Not saying there aren't some good czech dogs out there because there certainly is. Just letting you know that the czech lines are no better than the west german working lines. I've been involved with wlgsd for 15yrs now and still consider myself a newbie but I can tell you the strongest & most powerful dogs I've seen in my time were all west german. What club are you training with judy? Sincerely. Kurt Hill

Kurt,
There are some excellent Czech dogs just as there are some excellent WG WL dogs.  I have both and both are fantastic.  I have seen, owned and worked some very strong dogs from both sides.  It really depends on what you want.  I see many Czech dogs being bred to WG WL dogs and I like it.  It is easy to find good or even great in both if you know where to look.  Most of my day is spent working my dog and others.

Jim. You are correct. I was just curious as to "why" she would prefer czech. Yes there are some excellent czech dogs out there but at the same time I have seen the czech dogs go downhill here in the states drastically from what I seen when I first started. It seems many believed the czech dogs to be superior and have bred the hell out of them as many newbies jumped on the bandwagon that czech was better when in fact they are not. There seems to a lot of czech breedings going on that probably shouldn't be bred. I've seen on many occasion people post asking about hard dogs or the best police prospects and I see people scream "czech" when I know from experience it simply isn't true. A very good friend of mine imported many many many police k9's and none were czech. I'm not bashing czech dogs by any means but am curious as to why she would prefer czech lines.... I can point her to a good breeder right in her home state of michigan who has produced some "VERY NICE DOGS" one of which was in my club which I have personally worked and I can tell you this male has "CRUSHING GRIPS" and is as tough as they come. His sire was gary hanrahans "BASTIN" dog. The kennel doesn't produce quantity but "quality". Kurt

When purchasing a puppy get a list of references. They should have a list on their website. Be leary of those websites who dont. Always have a list of questions when you call. They should be able to answer each and every one. Hope this helps.

Kurt, The Malinois I trained I worked with Nino at K9 Academy here in Grand Rapids.  It was incredibly expensive but well worth it.  I will probably join Kevin Kinker's group as it is reasonably close and much less expensive than paying for private lessons.

I do like both Czech and German working lines, infact a I have nice puppy from German working lines who is line bred
  • 5 - 5............................................. in SG Gabi von der alten Wassermühle
  • 5 - 5............................................. in V Alf vom Körnersee
  • 3 - 5............................................. in V Muchta vom Schwarzhorn
  • She is an incredible girl and I think she is going to do well.  I do however like the look of many of the Czech dogs I have seen as well as their working ability.
