I have been reading a lot about working line GSD's. The impression I am getting eg from leerburg's site is that a non-protection trained GSD will only bark,  if you are attacked at home since they have not been trained to bite. If that's the case, we might as well buy a chihuahua, since I suspect even those will bark.

Is that true, any personal experiences ?.

a good dog should bite in a bad situation if it doesnt then i wouldnt consider it a good dog

will not go as far as a protection trained dog but i mean seriously just sit there and bark like a lab or a shit zu? really? i hope people wouldnt breed a dog like that..

any and every dog will just about put on a good show for you, you dont need a working gsd for that

I don't agree, I know my old Czech dog will bite an intruder, as he did it twice!  He was never formally trained past his BH, but once a neighbor entered the back yard, not knowing he was outside to potty, and he left with some meat missing, LOL.  another time an old friend approached my husband, after not seeing him for awhile, and came up and, like men do, lightly slapped him on the shoulder in greeting, and boy BIG MISTAKE!  We had to pull him off the man.

leerburg offers good advice and training sometimes and has really nice stuff for sale i think and has some good stuff but from what i hear his dogs were horrible

i dont think most working gsds are going to protect you but i also dont consider most working gsds that great, it takes an experienced person to go and pick out good dogs it seems, but if u have a good dog its not going to just "bark" while someone breaks into ur house and beats you up.

The above link is all about that subject including actual scenarios where German Shepherds did protect and protection trained shepherds did not (some in the same story).

IMO, any dog has protection instinct... training just helps to fine tune it.

This video should dispell all myths (or at least be a good laugh).
