ha ha....and all the complaining about USCA...this whole GSDCA/WDA nonsense is going to get worse folks:-) GSDCA wants nothing to do with a biting dog....and the WDA knows that. Look at all the people who have left WDA in the last yr.

ron, I would tend to agree with you in times past, but it was GSDCA/AKC who backed and attempted to get the failed PPD program (or whatever it was called) off the ground. I have no inside knowledge, but I always felt that things would not have gone well with WDA had this program succeeded.

A few years ago, I think the WDA membership tossed an unexpected curve ball at GSDCA with the election of officers who were not so GSDCA friendly. I see some of the present agenda as nothing more than assuring this doesn't happen again.

To JudyK--isn't it interesting that your post questioning the proposed by-law change to the quorem was removed without explanation as abusive by 1 of the 2 WDA Facebook site monitors--Region 1 Director John Henkel or recently appointed secretary Sally Blount. Yet on 3/19  both of them wrote long Facebook posts waxing eloquent on the worthiness of the by-law changes while lavishing praises on the positions of each other and the calm, comfortable atmosphere of "harmony and change" that now exists within the new Board.  When did the old fashion practice of allowing open discussions of the pros and cons of the ideas of members cease to exist and when did differing opinions of members begin to be labeled as abusive or hostile?
After reading Ms Blount's post, I can now envision the warm, fuzzy feeling that surely must pervade each of this Board's meetings as all of the Board members clasp hands in peace and harmony and unity while singing several verses of Kumbaya.  Maybe they will perform in public at NASS--who knows?

Hi Rik.....I'm sure that is a valid statement. I believe the agenda is self serving but, I could be wrong. WDA is controlled by the GSDCA...a large group of people that don't appreciate the real German Shepherd...IMNSHO:-)

Judron, I belong to the GSDCA and I appreciate a "real" German Shepherd. I bet more than half of the GSDCA members have performance dogs and I also bet our dogs look and act similar to yours.  Most of the performance dogs (obedience, agility, herding, tracking) are probably German or a German mix. I can't verify it but it seems like a very, small select group breeds for straight up American show dogs..I mean out of total GSDCA membership.  But, they do have a lot of influence.....

However, I will admit to not having the political history of what has gone on in the GSDCA over time. I can only speak for myself, my dog (who is almost all DDr bred with a tiny bit of Czech); and the others I see in performance. Met a real nice Kirschental dog at the agility area at the November show and owner is  GSDCA member. He went SG but owner loves agility and not ScH so he couldn't go for V.  Regardless, please don't throw all GSDCA mmebers under the bus!!!

I might add..I am trying to do ScH but the organizations have not made it easy. If there is not a WDA club in your area it can be challenging as USA Clubs don't want you and who knows if you can even compete at USA shows as a GSDCA member (maybe if you jump through tons of hoops). The other thing is ScH takes a lot of time to train and it's easier to do AKC performance events. I wanted to do ScH but I just don't have the time for ALL three phases. Plus, you need a club for ScH for the bitework.  Thus, I am sure there are lots of GSDCA dogs that could do it but it's time consuming and incredibly difficult to navigate the ScH world as a GSDCA member.  But, I can do obedience, herding, and agility based on my own schedule (when my young child is in school) versus the twice a week ScH schedule that I can't make as I have a family.  So, I am going to try to work for my BH and show in SV style conformation shows on my own and then take it from there.  We do obedience, herding, and agility now. I am hoping to start ScH training when my child is in school full day and I can do private lessons.  If people want to say I suck and don't have a "real" GSD because I put my family first right now than so be it.

Smiley...congrats on your accomplishments...and I'd be more than willing to take your bet. Most of the dogs I've seen at AKC obedience events act nothing like my dogs...and yes, I attend a few shows a yr. By the way...I belonged to GSDCA?WDA....there aren't enough clubs to even trial in my area. I was the alternate helper for WDA's first Sch championship....that's another story:-)

It seems like for some people to maximise trial opportunity it might be best to join UScA, they can trial at WDA events as well as UScA ones. The AWDF scorebooks are recognised by both, something you might think about Smiley.

Please keep your posts coming, your last one of the Board holding hands and singing Kumbaya really caused me to laugh.

While I totally understand your wish to remain anonoymous, there are some who wish we knew who you were because you write so eloguently what we think.

Thanks and keep posting!

Judron, interesting!!! Was it an all-breed show or specialty? If specialty than yes, I absolutely agree with you!!

But, most of the GSDCA mmebers I know that compete in all-breed shows have German or German crosses. But, maybe it is just my region!

Also agree with you about finding an ACTIVE WDA club. Frustrating to say the least!

Avorow- we are not allowed to join USA if we are GSDCA members. Some stupid rule.
