Just wondering what would be the difference in a cattle prod and an e-collar. And I have seen trainers at the highest level of international competition use an e-collar.

Sorry Moons, but I have boots higher than that..  I have walked in many venues for the last 33 years and I have been in many training fields of cattle, dogs, police trials, schutzhund fields, and in the homes of 4 top trainers in this USA>

ONE IN Wisconsin, and Florida and Texas and I have walked the fields of Oklahoma and seen Cattle Prods used.

THERE  ARE MANY  uses for Cattle Prods.

Think what you want.. MY reputation is already  served me High and well.

I post the truth and I do not candy Coat my profession nor my Religion

RIK:

THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I JUST MENTIONED.  IN fact , RIK, my years of Training in DALLAS, I could tell things that TOP top, competitors, I trained with and watched and how they used worse things than   Cattle Prods>

TRY  explaining the E collar used on a dog on a table when teaching that DOberman to release that dumbell when teaching  the FORCED RELEASE??????

E Collars are used on top BIRD DOGS all over the world and they turn that amperage up to top numbers , too.

I raised tough , hard dogs and I learned  how to protect myself in any situation  NOT ALL DOGS require a CATTLE PROD>>>READ how and why I said do it.....

On the beach in Galveston , my friends in Schutzhund carry cattle prods because of OFF LEASH dogs running the beach attacking or running right up to a GSD that you do not want touched nor harmed nor bit. I do not want any dog engaging my gsd, and neither do the friends walking the beach in galveston.  These owners also have ranches and cattle prods are an every day piece of equipment.

TAKE  A TRIP  to Germany, Belgium , or THE Netherlands and spend 3 months in a club, live in a home of a breeder and trainer , of working line gsd,  watching every days events in the lives of working a gsd., or a Rotty or a Dobby, or any working line dog..

A cattle prod will seem like a CANDY CANE to you after you spend your days getting educated in thses homes in Germany.

Rik,
A cattle prod will throw a spark and drop a full grown man to the ground.
An e-collar has settings and much lower impact.

I know Rose,
You do not like my posts against gouda and Sthal.

As for using cattle prods on dogs, just because people do it doesn't make it right or a proper way to train, sorry we will have to disagree on that as well.

And the boots?
I'll just let that one lay.

Moons.

to the OP, not going to comment on pedigree, but a sound GSD can overcome a lot of stressful issues in a pretty short time.

I LOVE this place.

It reminds me of my family sitting around the dinner table, having a ahem, friendly, conversation.

But seriously....... All of you have a wealth of knowledge and experience, and I respect and apprecieate all of your replies.

About cattle prods. They demonstrated the use of them on rams to induce erections back in my college days. I'd never use one on a dog after seeing that!

Yes, Beetree, can tell you have no experience out in the  dog world of training nor in the world of traveling with SPORT dogs of all kinds..

Cattle prods work wonders on people also.  A whole lot safer than VIAGRA!!

LOL

I think I will go buy two

ALL the robberies in our towns here and break in senior citizen homes, I will deliver some Cattle Prods to two  older ladies who live down the road.

Sshe will just have to use them until I get Raydo there to finish the bad guys off.

Never said I did YR. I am the consummate pet person. Oh horrors!

I thought I wanted to be a vet once, and that was when I was accepted to college. They showed us all sorts of cool things, like well, the one I described. They even offered to let me cut the nuts off a suckling pig. I declined, LOL But I can describe how to do it!
