VomHKINC... I have seen the same thing in the bitch I imported.  She is the granddaughter of Enny, Ellute's sister.  She is very clear headed and accepting of new people, but she keeps her eye on them and if they make a wrong move towards me, she lets them know in a very serious way.  The best thing about her is that she only uses as much force as she feels is necessary and is not quick to bite someone.  On the other hand of "too sporty" is "too civil"... those dogs that want to pick a fight with everyone for any reason and no reason at all.

I have an Ellute grandson that is super in nerve drive and grips, but I think his sire Sid vh Pixner had a lot to do with it

k9qsd78 - sometimes I think my male is that way because he knows that I've been sick lately, and he will pick up on it.  However, he's very discriminitive with strangers, normally OK.  On numerous occasions while my husband was walking him at night, and trust me my neighborhood is NOT nice, a few people went over purposely on the same side of the street to antagonize the dog...one tried to hit my husband the other two tried to kick the dog.  He bit all of them, and nicely.  People like that need to stay away from a dog...you see the dog is wearing an orange collar, you don't approach him  Jerks.  They deserved what they got...honestly would you kick a nasty looking German Shepherd?  Puleeze.  I was walking him the other night and I had the right of way on the sidewalk...I saw a gang guy walking on the same side,  he 'saw'the dog, and he eyed me...I eyed him back.  He would not move over...I had to grab my boy by his collar.  I mean,  this guy had 3 cell phones in one hand, and a non disclosed knife in the other.  He made no attempt to conceal it, and it was of illegal size.  I had my heart in my stomach, but the dog let him pass as I told him to 'wait.'  He decided to turn back around and approach me, but then my dog tried to engage...after that, I was already too upset as my neighborhood is going to pot, so I decided to finish my walk and out of the corner of my eye, following me quite a number of blocks away still taililng me...I called the PD and told them, gave them the description, the gang colors, etc.  He tried to follow so I just at that point turned around and told him to go away.  When I hit the corner he was still there, ready to go into the drug park across the street, but the cops nailed him...have not seen him since, and I was not about to enter my house so he could figure out where I live.  I really hate this stuff.  Hate people. LOVE my dogs!  Really hate idiotic people, but adore my dogs even more. ERGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so any downsides noticed so far that can be somewhat attributed to Tom himself?

Some Tom lines bringing in Fero and Pike blood have done very well in sport, example Como,my female from Tom combined with a male linebred on Troll came out very nice

Lasco vom Westfalensproß out of chico was the best late producing dog. bottom line!! thats if you like a "real" german shepherd! I own or have owned dogs from all of the above except bandit. Every dog ive seen out of lasco/chico is twice the dog of any mentioned!

smith... Can you be a little more specific?  In what ways are the Lasco produce "twice the dog" of any of the produce you've seen from the other dogs mentioned?

I ask because some people judge a dog solely on their fight and power in phase C.  In actuality, v. Stephanitz was looking for much more than that in a "real GSD".

I looked at the video posted in Smith's advertisement and the dog is a nice male on the video, looks like pretty nice in all three phases (point wise as stated by him).

If he is the hardes, not sure but a nice dog that I agree.
