Thanks Nan, my problem now is he has damaged two bitesleeves already. Actually I got him July 2010 and I have purchased two bitesleeves already, so for the past few weeks no bitework for him until the third sleeve arrives.

cheers,
JoFay

I am very happy with my GSDs also.  First one achieved SchH3 at less than 3 yr old and repeated it several times, now training in PSA and looking very promising.  2nd one is a pup and coming along very nice.

Spunky aka Zippy vom haus Miller has perfect service dog temperament and is the most beautiful female gsd I have ever had. I don't like her whining (she gets impatient waiting) and I wish she wasn't dog aggressive. She used to be super friendly to the extreme and I thought she would never be protective.....one night, she scared a pit bull puppy and the puppy's owner kicked her, then chased us, swinging a chair, yelling he was going to kill my dog....and spunky has been protective since then. Overall, I am happy with her. She is an awesome bike-pulling dog and she backpacks 2 two liters of mountain dew home from the store, quite often.

You ask a question like that.. on a dog site.. targeting GSD owners..? Are you kidding..?

 *grin*

Of course they are going to love their dog(s)..!

I will say that my first dog (LOGUN) is a Belgian (Groenendahl) and I love him (fixed, rescue) and hav trained him well..

However, I am not in the same league ~at all~ with most of you... I train, and it IS impressive (I tell people that my dogs listen better than the kids next door lol, but when they see what my dogs can do, they agree with me!) but I am not a breeder and I am having some issues with my girl who CONSTANTLY jumps up at my mouth.. I just don't want to squelch her little spirit too much..as she thinks I'm her mother (mother substitute) because she was born in my house and I hav had her ever since..

But I'm getting ahead of myself a bit.. I hav the dog mentioned above, as well as a female (unfixed, purebred, large-boned, gertman lines) GSD. I hav never owned a female before and I LOVE HER SOOOOO MUCH! I mean, all dogs are loyal and loving but I love my (TUNDRA) GSD to the point of now I understand why people become fanatics about their dogs..!! I hav never felt this way about a  ~ dog ~ before.. ever!

But she is soo loving and sooo devoted and she will do anything I ask and on top of it is SO protective of me..! (Is this characteristic of the breed?) I mean I know GSDs are supposed to hav "ball drive" (she does!) and be workers, but MAN! She is ALLLL Shepherd..!

As stated, I hav never felt this way about an animal before, not my horses or any other dog even growing up.. it's almost as much as I love my child..and she loves being with me, I can tell. She loves going with me and pays attention to every word I say, watches me..all the time.. I hav never had such a repoire and it just works.

I hav over 20 commands for her and use hand signals and voice (but hand for when I telll her to "go out", if shes too far away and can't hear me, she can at least see me) commands but we hav to "go through our paces" otherwise she gets rusty.. the only issue is she jumps up at me CONSTANTLY and I can't get her to stop,.. I think this stems from instinct more than anything because like I said I think she thinks of me as a mother and the cubs always jump at the mothers mouth for the food she brings to them (right?) I don't want to "break" her spirit completely by forcing her to stop this behavior as its my impression that this is so ingrained in her, if I got her to stop it I think it would..

Anyway, any thoughts I'd love to hear it, but mostly, that's just my .02 as I couldn't resist commenting about the Best Dog in the Whole Wide World.. !

Ibrahim:
Good work with Orwell. Since what age did you suspect that he would protect. And were there any earlier incidents that made you think that the dog would protect.
