first i don't get why you think sl have better conformation - i think they look disgusting like a moose crossed with a frog. most of the public i talk to about it agree. seems the only people who like sl conformation are those that exhibit/buy/sell sl dogs. the need to look so extreme conformation i think is driven by the need to stand out in the ring. like being in the middle range of the standard will not get you noticed? by definition of standard anything the dogs closest to the middle should be the better dogs judged by the standard phenotype part alone.

to judge a dog just based on phenotype alone is ignoring the most significant part of the standard - why ignore it and say you are judging by the standard.

back to yr question - only on my first gsd, politically incorrect street dog with no papers bred for agression on agression - i like him a lot. more than i ever dreamed of owning. i really don't even care how he measures up to other dogs he is evrything i asked for and want. i would clone if i could. definately consider breeding if i could get good homes fpr pups and found right female. has high ball drive AND defence in same dog, i did not think that was even possible, i thought more of one means less of other.

would not trade mine for any other dog on planet.

Bosco is way more dog than our handling skill level but he's that one in a million for us.

Laura, did you import your dog from a Slavik speaking country?

Bosco is from a very small breeder in SW Ontario (Canada).

Oh Ok, the kennel name (on the pedigree) is like some sort of Slavik but not familiar with it.
Anyway, Bosco is a very handsome fella.

My Aleit is far from perfect, but her smile still makes me happy. Quinto makes everyone smile with his fluffy loving self and his huge anime eyes and I cherish every day he is a part of my life. Ulf is a rare gift that brought many together and enriched lives as he goes forth each day making new friends and being everything I have asked of him out of heart and being what a gsd is suppossed to be. They have all taught me so much and have made me have a happy life. I am greatful I have a loving, supportive, and indulgent husband that is so very good to me learning to live and love a multiple dog household until he is just as in love with them as I am ;) Each of my three make life whole and we would be lost without any part of them.

Happy holidays from our home to yours! May everyone know a season of peace and contentment with their gsds.

I have loved all of my GSD to pieces, those whilst growing up, those I have owned and lost as an adult adn those I have now.

I now am owned by 3 GSDs. 2 SL males (one was 4 years old at the end of October, the other one will be 5 years old on Tuesday) and a WL bitch (who will be 3 years old in January).

Unfortunately my bitch has severe HD so cannot be involved in SchH etc so I have to think outsid ethe box a little bit to keep her stimulated. We still do obedience with her and set up games such as hide and seek where my Son will hide somewhere and she has to find him.

A little over a year ago I took on  WL male, Koda. He's about 20 months old now if my memory of his date of birth serves me correctly. I stupidly allowed him to get into the bad habit of playing and training late at night then found I couldn't stop him. I have a mobility disability which meant I couldn't cope with his behaviour. Also, 10 days after I brought him home he was attcked by another GSD. The antibiotics given didn't work an as a result the infection took hold and he ended up losing a lot of flesh and muscle from around his neck area. We got him fully recovered physically and fortunately he wasn't DA after that (I know I would have been!). For these reasons, mostyl because I obliged when he wanted attention at night though, he was returned to his breeder in March. Koda is a lovely dog and was perfect for me as although I have a strong interest in SchH, I had never been involved inthe sport before.  Koda is my avatar picture.

I am still interested in SchH and will wait a couple of years now before getting a WL GSD pup. I am starting now to look seriously at certain breeders but have not formally contacted any yet. I will ask the breeders about my requirements first (given that I am new to WL GSDs and with a dodgy left knee) before considering looking at their dogs. Breeding/pedigrees don't really interest me but so long as I can get a pup that has enuogh drive to WANT to work and be active with an off switch such that after 9pm the dog will settle, I can ensure I don't make the same mistakes as I did with Koda.

My 2 boys, Zane (the oldest) and Yiannis (my middle dog) are both typical SL GSDs. They have both been trained in obedience to a certain extent but not for competition. Zane is also a qualified assistance dog and although I try NOT to use him formally, I do keep him up to date with his training in this area. Yiannis has done obedience and a little bit of tracking but not much.

Jenzi is my WL bitch with severe HD. I would not have considered rehoming her even though I couldn't allow her to do certain activities. She was a part of our family from the day I brought her home and bcause I was interested in SchH I took on Koda. Some people are able to return a dog if they cannot do what they expect to with it but personally once a dog comes into our lives, they're here to stay unless somthing goes very wrong. I have to think outsid ethe box with Jenzi somewhat because of her dodgy hips and she is a real pain in the bum at the best of times. If I don't do what SHE wants I get "nose-nudged". It's no little tap either - it f***ing hurts at times!! I wouldn't have it any other way though.

My previous GSD (GSDx maybe) was Jaikei. I had her from Birmingham Dogs' Home. All we knew of her history was that she was systematically beaten daily. She was aggressive towards people (men particularly) and ALL animals. However, she had that lovely Shepherd affinity for kids they all have and cannot hide. When I first brought her home my oldest niece was 2 years old and my nephew was a 6 month odl baby (January 1997). She would snuffle at their feet, lick their cheeks if they cried and followed my niece everywhere, lying at my nephews feet when he slept.
When I had my Son, Oscar in August 2004 she did the same with him. Of course she was never left alone with him but I always knew that she felt Oscar belonged to her. It was amazing to see how this aggressive, nasty bitch of a dog (who took 4 years to calm down and allow visitors into the house) allowed a newborn baby to control almost her every move. Sadly, we lost Jaikei on 29th. November, 2004.

There will never be another breed for me. I may well have other dogs that are GSD crosses or I may in the future have an Akita or two, but I will ALWAYS have GSDs.

Here are the 3 Loony tunes I am currently owned by.

Zane (DOB 25/12/2007), SL, black & tan, neutered, male

Yiannis (DOB 31/10/2008), SL, black & tan, neutered, male

Jenzi (DOB 07/01/2010), WL, black/gold sable, entire, female

Below (the Sable dog) is Bella, my 17-month old  Czech WL girl....the best watchdog I have ever had !  Nothing, absolutely nothing (!) gets by her, without being subjected to her thorough and rigorous scrutiny.

Further below (the Bicolor or possibly a blanket B&T) is my 9-month old Czech/Slovak WL boy, Lord (link posted earlier when he was 6 months old).....the picture was taken when he was 8-months old and thus he is a bit more bigger than what you see below.   More defense than prey and has bedrock solid nerves (can settle down and literally go to sleep - with one eye open Wink Smile - when he needs to be out of the way, and absolutely no barking or whining when he is in the crate), which is become a rare trait amongst current day GSDs.  Genetically civil and this trait is hardening as he is coming of age.  Utterly fearless.
