Reading these posts about Bailey and his lines will be read by many, not all will post, not all will be pleased, but, by speaking out it can make such a difference, to the breeders who do care to the pet owner who does want to be informed before buying their puppy, word of mouth can be quite effective, as long as it is accurate. When talking with Chris Hazell today about her own dog who suffered and died with Epilepsy and also Sheila Rankin's dog, they too feel so frustrated and sad that so much time has passed and still lines are producing Epilepsy,they too wrote articles on their beloved dog, suffered the same pain of loss, tried hard to make a difference and raise awareness, and still do, sadly it makes you think that the only way things will change will be if people stop buying puppies from these breeders who continue to use affected lines, the old saying hit them where it hurts, in their pockets is true.
The KC continue to register puppies from these lines, even though they know what they contain and what they are capable of producing, and these Breeders will carry on, but sadly when their Bitch produces more problems in a litter than puppies, what then. Margaret N-J has made some good suggestions, especially if it did make this Breeder question the lines

I think Margaret N-J's idea is an excellent one. I believe that as a dog is classified as goods and chattel the breeder can be pursued for supplying defective goods in a small claims court.
I apologise deeply for using that phraseology, and applying it to your beloved dog Rachael, it is just how it would be termed I believe in a court case. Because of the pain and heartache of course, most of us would not 'have the stomach' for it, but maybe it is time someone did. Not for the money, nothing can ever replace Bailey, nothing can ever make up for what he and you suffered. But to finally make a breeder take responsibility and be taken to task for what they did, rather than just letting them carry on to do it again and again. If more people did this, then surely it would make them think a damned sight harder about the consequences of their actions. Not because they care, but because of what it will do to them.
They do rely on people not actually taking action against them. Maybe you could set up an action group, so that others could be encouraged to do the same when breeders do not offer redress (which these breeders never do) when they find themselves with an unhealthy pup. If they had to continually offer monetary redress, or were forced to pay redress through the courts I am sure it would start to sink in and they would re-think their lines. Money does hurt them.

What I would dearly appreciate is any other owners with sick dogs related to these lines to come forward. Even in a pm.

It would obviously help your case if you can find allies who are in the same position. One word of advice though, before spending too much on legal stuff, be sure this breeder has money, owns a house or is employed. You cannot get blood out of a stone and if they live in a rented house or are unemployed, you could win your case, but still not get anything back, even your costs. On the other hand, a successful court action against this breeder might convince the KC to have a closer look at her activities. Don't hesitate to ask if you need any help.

Baileyboy Yes, having looked at your pedigree there are names on your pedigree which appeared on perspective recent litters, they were in 4th, 5th and 6th generations though. One I recall had the same one on both sides.
My info came from the internet where the names were repeatedly bought up, so ultimately it most likely did originate with the breed council.
Thank you for your opinion about the pedigrees being put on here. Just an idea, anything to help stop the misery for dog and owner :-( Sadly, no, I haven't found a new companion yet but I am hopeful soon.

I am typing on iPhone which has a mind of its own. What I was going to say is that after 15years of keeping gsds as pets. I am put off having another.

It might help to put out Bailey's story on other groups you are on giving people an update on what you are doing and hoping to achieve and ask if they know of others who have these lines with possible health problems it gives you a bigger audience and widens your search. Make sure that what is said is factual, keep contact with the KC or Steve Dean with all the information needed and gathered. This again will highlight the problem with Epilepsy and just how bad it is in todays breeding lines, and also let people once again be aware of the suffering that dogs like Megan, Bailey and many others have gone through
