I think Bomber would be a good dog to go to a "G" female, if the character and genetic pieces align. This is how I believe we keep the positive traits of a super working dog that may have less than stellar structure. Only breeding dogs like Bomber to dogs with similar great structure is a recipe that has lead to decreasing returns in some lines..jmo

Its ok, I wasn't suggesting they should all be Siegerins.
But if someone has a bitch that has, say, an IPO 2, but
would run at the very back of any (Euro) conformation
class, personally I would want to think VERY seriously
before I mated her to anything.  Whoever her parents &
grandparents were.

She might still get a 'G', if of age;  but if graded G24 in a
Class of 24, one would surely have to ask questions about
how much she was a 'good' all-round specimen of her
breed ?

Anyway, its all a bit academic as far as Bomber is concerned,
unless something changes his 'withdrawn from stud' status ...
There may be more offspring but they're unlikely to be from bitches
from the general populace.

That's where we are differentWink Smile, and that is OK. My point is what is good for the breed through the use of Bomber, I think your point is more from a personal like viewShades Smile. Different strokes for different folks.....no right or wrong!

On this occasion I respectfully disagree, Gustav.  Although of course you
are right in that too much of 'the same' is no good thing either, for the
breed as a whole and long-term,  I stand by what I say about the overall
intentions of the Germans.  Not so much a personal preference, more a
respect for the intentions of the breeds founder and those who came and
maintained the breed after him (and in hope they always stay on track !).
I realise that view sits better in Europe than it does Stateside.

Speaking of "G" rated dogs, how has Bomber produced in terms of pairings with dogs of lesser structure? His pedigree has a few more "G"s than I'd care to see, personally, and though he's a gorgeous dog, I'm curious as to whether his progeny typically resemble his structure. His ancestors were often paired V with G it appears, so just wondering if anyone can comment yet, in general, what structure has been like. I looked through his listed progeny and most are not rated or at least no one has updated their PDB page with the info.

Well, one would think this guy had the good sense to buy such a great dog in the first place, that he has a pretty good idea of which lines mesh with which.
I would imagine there are other people aside from those here on the database that know at least "a little bit"about German Shepherds and what lines bring what with them.
And unless I am mistaken, I think this guy might even know a thing or two about the dreaded showlines.
In fact, I think he may have already.....mated Bomber to a showline or two.....
Sure will be interesting to follow those dogs and their progeny down the road, huh.

I have found that many people that buy very nice dogs don't have a clue about what is compatible to their dog....not saying this person is or isn't but just because he brought Bomber doesn't assure us of his knowledge of lines. Nevertheless, I knew that Bomber has V/SG breeding to "G" makeup in his own pedigree....them darn Americans must have lucked up when they produced him.
I'm not sure that Bomber will be as successful with some lines as people think....I could very well be wrong, but I think his drive and the dogs that make up his structure will have a negative impact on some lines.....but again I could be very wrong.

i prefere agent over bomber, don't ask me why it's just a feeling can't explain it

by Gustav on 21 March 2013 - 19:03

My last post on this subject, I think Bomber and Bandit are very very nice dogs! I also think that there are certain working line dogs that can be successfully bred to DDR or SL dogs with the results achieving good balance in looks and work. That said, I think that the drive in Bomber is rather strong, and the structure is not as consistent genetically so as to give the SL person the type of structure they like as often as they may think. This is all just my thoughts, could be way off, but want to put to bed thoughts that I am anti Bomber or that I am against WL /SL crosses.
I just think in this particular case, there are dogs that may not do well with Bomber on an individual basis.
