Several show dogs have gone for $100,000. . . to Americand and Japanese and to China.

I don't know the new owner, but I do know that I really like the dog.  I don't know that I could come up with the stud fee.
I would be more inclined to purchase a pup by him for that, then at least you would know exactly what you are getting vs waiting for a litter of pups that 'might' be hard to recoup you stud fee on.

I think $1200 is a reasonable price myself for stud fee... Hell there are back yard breeders on here continuously trying to get $1000 plus for puppies. I'd rather have a whole litter to watch from day one and have first pick out of a proven stud myself. :). I hope he's around for awhile and stays fertile.

I agree $1200 is a very reasonable price, and a bargain vs. getting a single puppy.  I know of breeders that like what he has produced, and bred back to him again with their other females, or even the same female.  I would also imagine that having a litter sired by such a famed dog would be very easy to place.  On the other hand, he has been SO prolific, that in generations to come he will be in the pedigrees of SO many dogs, whether we want him there or not.  It will be difficult to measure his FULL impact on the breed until he has been linebred on, so that his genetics are better put to the test.

Daryl your thinking too much.... Good point though. Time will tell. In the meantime I wish I had a female for him. Lol.

Show dogs have been sold for a lot more than 100K.

I wish everyone 'thought as much' as Daryl on this.

The stud fee may be reasonable for someone who is a well known and respected breeder with proven females.

I am looking at that high of a stud fee from my view.  I am unknown, have not bred a litter in over 15 years and my current female is only 6 months old and untested.  At this point I am not active in a sport although I plan to join a schutzhund club this coming year and attempt to title my female.  If my female were old enough to produce a litter of pups, would you buy a pup from me?

Now say, in a couple years and my female passes her hips/elbows testing and has a title or two....and he is still fertile (not sure how old he is).  I MIGHT consider it.  Although I am in SW Fla, so logistics could be difficult.

For now, I will just have to settle for drooling over his photos and those of his progeny on the net.Tongue Smile

I fail to see how a stud fee that is the equivalent of the price of a single puppy could be considered 'high'.
