Oh for crying out loud!!!!!  It is not rocket science..........Keep your dog leashed when you are out of the fence...   Midgets dont get  a special pass........................Kids can be pests............Your dog isnt ready to be out and about off leash.........Set your dog up for success.........not failure................no reason to rehome............you had had recall - that is a plus...................   just remember your dog will do what she did and dont put her in the same situation....................  you think your dog is to much - then rehome........but if you love your dog - figure out each situation your dog will be in and plan for the future.............it is that simple.........................

for those idiots that think that dogs should be conditioned to kids are idiots................your kids are a different story - but neighborhood kids............give me a freaking break.................most dogs are pets.........belong to pet people - they are not equipped to condition for every situation............I dont care if my dogs are conditioned for kids - I dont have them - dont want them - and I am not preparing for the to be social with them........this person has kids - she is social with them - it was a bad call on the handler to have her off leash when out of the fence...........not successful - but to say that it is a failture..  or that a dog is not fit for her home................give me a freaking break........dont rehome your dog because you think she is too much - you just need to be aware - that this might happen and dont put her in that situation again.............

just my opinion.

Not in anyway implying there is anything wrong with the dog (WL with high drives, they can need an experienced hand) but hasn't the OP been having training issues with this dog since the puppy was 13 weeks old?

Perhaps this has not been a happy dog/owner relationship since the beginning.

"Perhaps this has not been a happy dog/owner relationship since the beginning."

That may be true.  That notwithstanding, the clown who calls himself a trainer and the people who agree with him who keep coming on these threads suggesting that their GSD's are somehow genetically superior if they have the temperament of a Golden Retriever are absolutely wrong.  I'm just sayin'...

It appears she can run all over without known boundries. She took off across the street with no mind for the pack leader? I just think it's a training issue to give the dog some clarity.

Have to agree Turk, I found if i did have issues I would look at myself as a novice trainer 10 out 10 times it was something I was doing wrong not the dog. That is fine as long as we are willing to learn from our mistakes and deal with the issue.

Vero,

where do you live?  Instead of listening to people telling you, you don't know what you are doing and get rid of the dog, maybe someone on this list can help you find a trainer to help you.  I am sure I can't help you find anyone, but I would think someone on this list could direct you a bit.

Canada, province of Quebec.
I just wanted to add that my dog lives in my house.  I exercise her each and everyday, no matter what.  I also have a 5 years old boxer.  I am an hyperactive person and I need endless energy dogs to follow me.  She is super quiet in the house, like me, endless energy outside.  I am not been having troubles for 21 months.  I have been facing issues a couple of times.  Not toy poodle issues, so that is why I am asking.  When I say something, she obeys right away.  She has a lot of qualities.  she can track whatever wherever I hide it.  My parents used her in their farm last summer, like if she did that forever, and she is just a pup.  She is around kids each and everyday, my own kids and friends of my kids.
Thank you for your answers.  I am going to get help and see what is best for my dog if I don't have what it takes.

Good Luck,,I think you are on the right path seeking help from an experienced trainer, but even then do not go against your gut feelings. If you are not comfortable with something in their training style come back here and throw it out for folks here to comment on it never hurts to get another opinion..,,Don't give up on your female she sounds like a very nice girl...Remember to keep her fenced in or on a leash!!,,

Keep us updated!!,,,

Personally I worry that anyone considers that a GSD that is naturally good natured towards children (or any young creature) has the wrong temperament, but 'talks up' what to me IS a temperament flaw (uncontrolled aggression) and tries to sell it instead as correct GSD temperament. I must have been labouring under a terrible misapprehension for many a long year, but I believed a stable temperament and correct socialisation should produce a bombproof dog, that can be switched on in a recognisable threat situation, or on command - but one that is trustworthy and will fit into everyday lifestyle otherwise.
To the OP, I am not referring to your dog in this comment, just the general trend of the conversation.
Sunsilver - I think the Monks of Skete were on to something.

Verohera - You have received some good advice. You have a beautiful dog, you just need to learn about training and work with her. Don't think that you are not up to it, we all have to learn. Learn together, you will be gratified at what you will accomplish.

Hey just a thought and I tend to think twisted at times.  We all know these dogs are smart, really smart and not all kids are angels.
