I have a question that has been burning away listening to the praise being heaped on Malcolm Griffiths from various quarters.   It is simple and it is this......if he had/has such ability, flair and knowledge of breeding GSDs etc....WHY did he need to falsify pedigrees?

Justice4us, I cannot be 100% sure;  but we are talking well over a
dozen years ago, when it all became public knowledge, and came to
Court  and the KC.  Those around me, who had actually used B. Pirol
and who knew the dog, and more to the point knew some or all of the
(then) more recent dogs - (wasn't it mainly the 2nd time around G litter,
or is my memory failing ?) - named as implicated in the fraudulent papers
were convinced, then.

I only know Pirol as a name in Gen.4 or 5 of pedigrees, and by the odd
critique and occasional photograph.  I don't even recall if he was ever at a
Show I myself attended.  But I trusted those who told me they believed that
at that point it had been ok, at least as far as knowing which dog sired which
litter - dunno about the smuggling in & out of here and Germany stuff, etc.

Abby - he made, or saved, money out of doing it, of course.

Abby,
I don't think anyone can answer that question only Malcolm himself.

Baveno GSD.Go and tell that to the people who used one of HIS stud dogs at the time (it had  apparently proven false pedigree ) if memory serves me correctly loads of litters were deemed useless pedigree wise through using this dog.

Hi,  i know i haven't posted for a long time but i thought i might add my own observations on this particular  post,  firstly, let me thank Bill for his kind words regarding Ute ( there was only one E Bill )  secondly, the GSD club of Wales;  it really does not matter who actually runs a club; or who picks the Judges, the absolute criterion is that the they endevour to secure the best judge possible to officiate at ( what i still consider to be ) the premier GSD show in Great Britain. Whatever you think about Malcolm Griffiths, and by the way i am not an Apologist, (  i haven't spoken to Malcolm for over ten years )  there is not one of his detractors who can  honestly put their hand on their heart and tell this forum that they would do a better job of judging the National; and lets be honest, that is the only reason that he has been invited to judge. He is peerless in this country; i know because i judge, and i have seen others judge, and believe me,  he is ahead by the proverbial country mile. Kind regards Paulie.

paulie: Put aside the fact that he was a cheat and liar regarding those criminal activities, he done a great disservice to the German Shepherd breed !
Sowhy  would anyone want him as a judge, alternative AGENDA'S COME TO MIND.If people who have been shafted by him, enter a dog then morals have really gone out of the window.

I just re-read what Blerio wrote about Bedwin's Ute, and he uses the words 'an Alf daughter' to describe her. In the context of this whole situation we should say....ah but was she ???

It is quite extraordinary, he certainly inspires devotion, despite the injustices he heaped on certain people in the breed and the breed itself.

Justice 4 us
If people enter under him " who have been shafted by him " they have obviously let go of the past & moved on feeling he has been punished by the relevant authorities, maybe it's time you do the same!

Abby
I sense resentment from yourself on how the GSD community still hold high regard for Malcolm as a judge & although what he done was wrong (which he has been dealt with for) he also contributed a massive amount to the breed.
I don't think yourself or Justice 4 us can say the same.

This is my final words on this post as its obvious some people are just on here to vent their anger on something that happened along time ago & think this will affect people entering the 2 day national which it won't!

No Baveno, not resentment - but seriously, astonishment.  But I acknowledge that he must be something special to many to inspire such feelings after all that has gone before. I do not doubt his ability to judge the GSD.

What he contributed to the breed is as unknown as the dogs in his pedigrees. But then I have always had a hang up with breed health and longevity - call me old fashioned if you will!

I am sure the 2 day will have a bumper entry for curiosity value alone!.

Abby, I can't be sure of any pedigree bred before I was involved with the female,  I supose you have to have an element of trust. Bedwins Ute was so father typical, and through the Jupaala kennel, Paul has the same type. Lets supose for a second Bedwins Ute isn't an Alf daughter but produced from a spurious pet from different breeding. It's 23 years ago when I mated her and produced 1 female puppy, what I can state is, the 8 generations I have bred with a direct female line to Bedwins Ute are correct. To some degree it's not important, it's so long ago. What is important is what has been achieved in those 8 generations. We breed for ourselves, we breed to produce for the show ring, character, type, soundness, attitude. and to win. We have achieved that in every generation, Some of the dissatisfied people on this thread blame their lack of progress on the fact it's pedigree might be wrong, and there lies it's problem. Walter Martin was more concerned about mating the right dog to the right bitch, pedigrees were only secondry. Some people will only mate based on what the pedigrees says. There are people who Breed dogs and others who just mate dogs. I remember a traing course I was on once, nothing to do with dogs.  The trainer showed the class a golfing magazine, on the cover was a photo of a golfer teeing off. He asked the  the class what was wrong with the golfers swing. There were loads of answers, this is wrong, thats wrong legs to far apart, wrong angle of the club etc. The answer!!! there was nothing wrong, that golfer had won 10 million dollars that year. People are so quick to look at things, and be negative, 75% of all people are motivated negativly.
