Blerio::Congrats on your second in open at crufts yesterday-the winner is a very nice dog,but i always feel that breeding your own winners is far more satisfying than just buying in -.slightly off topic that.whereas people like griffths are never satisfied and so resort to crime to make even more money.

Hey Kaffirdog, remind me of the story about the longcoat of yours that MG owned, had good hips I think ?. That aside more than 10 years on has there been anyone better at breeding/handling/judging ?. Apart from imports the breed hasn't exactly moved on much in a decade in the UK.

Blerio
Whilst I appreciate what you said, I personally don't agree with it. Health, temperament, character and longevity are hugely influenced by heritage, so how can what is behind the dog (the other dogs and their characteristics, type and health status) you are breeding be largely irrelevant? How would you not take these things into account once you had decided that two dogs were a potentially good match, how could you be sure it was the right dog for the right bitch without then looking at the dogs behind?
How could you know if there was epilepsy in the lines? But it depends on your breeding goals of course. Secondary means just that - not unknown and therefore not taken into account at all.   You stated what this is all about when you said you have to have an element of trust.............

Abby, I agree that health, character, etc are very much determined by its parents. Irrelevant is not a word I used, good breeders breed type to type, and of course family history is important and a strong influence in deciding if the mating goes ahead. I agree with you about breeders objectives. Don't ever forget the people around the ring who breed and show their dogs breed to produce not a good, ok dog, but a Super Star. The difference sometimes between a good one and a Super Star is not a lot. If breeding dogs was so easy you would put Champion A, to Champion B, and wait for you're next Champion. Life isn't quite like that. Take a top VA male with every health check and qualification under the sun and is producing well. Say over 2 years he has 160 females, say average 5 puppies per litter, 800 puppies. His group at the Sieger show would be cosidered large if 50 were presented. Where are the other 750. They may have all the attributes that are important to you, but may not have that magic ingredient to get in the Sires group. The sires owner will only want the best to present before a large audience. (the shop window) Trust issues are always in the back of you're mind, look on PDB dogs for sale, they are shipped all over the world with the buyer only seeing a photo, then the slanging match starts on threads like this. "You send me the wrong dog" I want my money back, you are a crook! Unfortunatly people never learn.

Bill,two excellent posts.Well done on Sunday.Carole Spelman.

Blerio and Noddi: While your last posts were interesting I feel we are going off topic a tad.We should really be quite concerned that people who have damaged the breed and swindled owners of  shepherds, then gets a judging appointment for our prestige 2 day show.As I say there is more to this than meets the eye.

by noddi on 14 March 2013 - 16:03

I,m done with this post, all it concerns is wot a man did in the past.Yes,he did wrong, havent we all done so in the past n learnt from our mistakes. The KC. n the gsd community(even some of those he cheated) are willing to let bygones be bygones n are planning to enter.I just wish i had a younger gsd to show under him than my veteran chiki, but god willing n a good sunny w/e me,hubby n chiki will be there. On a different topic, but not entirely off topic,we as a breed should be more interested in wot they alsatianists are proposing to our kennel club......making a "NEW BREED  OF ALSATIAN".Now that is more important to me than having a pop at Malcolm Griffiths for misdemeanours of 10 yrs ago.Carole S..

noddi: facts all wrong as usual.

by justice4us on 18 March 2013 - 09:03
