Just putting feelers out for now...
Any breeders out there that have(working line) Fero free litters planned/due? Only looking for those breeders that do all the pertinent health & temperament testing & train/title their dogs(doesn't have to be in IPO).

some time back on RSV's web site I saw a few. I find their english-version website is not very user-friendly, but you might find some.

What do Fero lines have that you are trying to avoid?  Just curious...

For those asking questions, here's an old article to consider: http://leerburg.com/fero.htm

Now consider that Fero produced over 1000 puppies. If you look at the Reverse Pedigree link for Fero, it will tell you:

"This dog has 19,103 descendants in 3 generations, 6,533 descendants in 2, which is much too large to show on one page." http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/pedigree.childtree?dogid=268

The database shows over 8000 dogs are linebred on Fero.

Fero was a tremendous producer of top producing sons and grandsons. His son Troll had over 900 puppies. Troll produced two top producing sons -- Aly and Yoschy (as well as quite a few others). Aly had over 700 puppies; Yoschy had over 1000. The reverse pedigree on Troll says, "This dog has 14,980 descendants in 3 generations, 5,681 descendants in 2, which is much too large to show on one page."

A top sport/schutzhund dog pedigree today may well have 8 different lines back to Fero within 6 generations. Today, it is very hard to find a German working line dog who does not go back to Fero--there are still some, but they are getting rarer and rarer.

The problem with Fero is that he was a great dog and a great producer--and his kids were great dogs and great producers. But none of them were perfect, and you get the bad along with the good sometimes. So a careful breeder who is breeding for the future might well try to find and propagate those lines that are free of Fero in order to keep some bloodlines free of the bottleneck or to have some directions to go in future breedings with their dogs who already are heavily bred on Fero.

For another perspective on bottlenecking, here's an article on "pedigree collapse" -- http://www.astraean.com/borderwars/2011/10/pedigree-collapse.html

You might look toward one stud dog being used currently who has a "Fero-free" pedigree - V-H'Doc v Rex Lupus Schh3,FH2,KKl-1,a-normal.   Check out breeders who are using him for their programs, if their females are fero-free then there you have it.
