VKGSDs

Unfortunately I drove home from work in a whiteout yesterday, so these pics are from the past two weeks.  We've had decent weather (40s) intermixed with snow and blizzard.  It was in the single digit temps on the first day of spring, whereas last year on that same day it was 87 degrees.  That is west Michigan for you!

This is "spring" in Michigan.....bleh!  These are from after Schutzhund on Sunday (it was dark, bitterly windy, below freezing)

My mutt dog likes this time of year though.  He likes having snow on the ground but air temps above freezing.

@VKGSDs - You experienced the same non-spring weather that we did on the weekend.

Here are two photos from Sunday morning; I caption them, "It will never be Spring." :)

Gorgeous colour on your male, VKGSD! Very handsome dog!

What's in your mutt that makes him like snow so much? I'm thinking maybe Berner?

Sunsilver, we have no idea what he is.  His mother was white and light brown, possibly a Collie /  Great Pyr mix.  My dog is black and red but some of his littermates have a little white and a more narrow face like a Collie.  My dog also has a completely purple tongue (not black splotches).  He carries his tail high and often curled over.  He's very low energy, low drive, super nice dog, very social with other dogs and people, a sensitive dog but not at all timid (no nipping, growling, barking, hackling....nothing like that, if something startles him he just walks away and comes back a few minutes later, I'd say he has a lower threshold for things that startle him BUT he recovers almost instantly).  Good food drive but I don't actively train him or trial him because he is absolutely not trustworthy off a leash and he is extremely leash and collar smart!  I got him when he was 1.5 years old.  He was born in a rescue (mom was pulled from a shelter, so we know the mom and birthdate) and then returned a year later and I saw him on PetFinder.  People love to guess his breed but he is most likely a mix of at least three breeds since his mom was a mix.  He has an INSANE amount of coat and if not groomed his hair will get long, like over a foot long (long stringy ears, belly, and pants).

This represents about 2 hours of my brushing, clipping, and trimming

And this is after half a day at a professional groomer, lol!  He has some sensitive skin and because his coat is so long and thick, he tends to get hotspots so often we just have him lion shaved.  It looks silly but is much more comfortable for him and last months rather than us having to constantly de-mat him.
