I swear that many many moons ago when I was first learning about
our breed, I read in a (breed, not general) book that the GSD does
not shed much. HaHaHa.

Has the coat changed over the decades ? Or is it about the difference
between keeping kennel dogs versus house dogs ? Actually that 2nd
question is rhetorical, thinking about the piles and piles I used to groom
out of the outside dogs where I worked until 2 years ago, even though
we did use a groomer a couple of times per year to get them bathed
and professionally groomed out.

Yes, there is a big difference. House dogs shed in the house.

I take a small Mikki rake with me when I walk Kira, since February she has shed non-stop. The birds loved all the hair to collect for their nests.

I made the mistake thinking Border Collies with long coats wouldn't shed much.... boy was I mistaken! The long fine undercoat is a nightmare.
