I was serious when I said Prince does not shed very much,,Is there anyone else that has a GSD that sheds very little ???,,,Could it be diet?..I have given coconut oil and probiotic as daily supplements routinely most of Prince's life and he is 3 years old,,On occasion I do for go the coconut oil, but for the most part Prince has always been on both..Maybe Prince's breeding/genetics ??..I had a female that was American show line / working line cross and she shed a ton !!...

My female shed very little between spring and fall sheds. I give her Mirra Coat as a supplement. She's spayed now and generally neutered dogs seem to shed more than intact ones so we'll see what happens. She shedding right now, has a  massive coat for a female, tons of undercoat. I will know more in 3,4 months.

It's perfectly normal for a dog to shed twice a year, some shed to the skin, others not so much. If the old hair is never shed, the coat will begin to look dry and unhealthy.

My dog doesn't shed much either, but then you get those two times a year where she explodes.... swear I could build 3 more of her with all the hair she loses!!!!

Believe it or not, but my Long Coat Shepherd "Oeht" doesn't shed half as much as the regular coated Shepherds!

I used to have a white GSD, it would only shed considerably at the end of spring/beginning of summer. The Sheltie on my avatar sheds considerably less. With the GSD, as well as with a Lab I used to have, I noticed shedding was reduced with vitamin E from fish oil.

I think the piles n piles of hair depend on the amount
of undercoat present.  Many L/Cs don't have so much
on the body, although they mostly still have very thick
'trousers'.  Standard coated dogs with very 'good' coats
(as per Show rating) are the worst shedders, in my
( fairly considerable ) experience.  My current dog has a
less than wonderful coat, and it's got thinner as he has aged;
he still sheds plenty, though, and not just twice a year - but a
lot seems to rub out around his bed etc ( not in the 'fridge yet,
thank goodness !   lol ) overnight, in between groomings.
He's been on coconut oil for a while and the quality of
his coat has now improved a bit, but that does not seem
to me to reduce the actual shedding by very much.

Ruger, when it comes to blowing coat my boys shed 1/4 of what my girls shed...not sure if its a boy thing but my girls undercoat is A LOT denser than boys....also big difference in year round shedding, boys almost dont shed at all during fall, winter....coconut oil helped a lot with constant shedding but not in spring...in spring fur is everywhere!

My female has a much lighter coat than my male. His has a really thick undercoat, so, of course, he sheds more. That doesn't mean my girl doesn't shed, though. I have to sweep up the fur balls every few days!
