It started off as the dog made a mistake and now it looks like the helper made a mistake .. that is progress isn't it??  A little truth never hurts unless you are allergic to it!

No not this time   Don't ruin something that many can learn from

I cannot make a slow motion of this video  on my computer can anyone else and then post it for all the see.

I am going to hope that for the next two hour while I feed someone can do this and the rst of you stop the crap and wait to see a new video.  If not I will lock this while I am not here and unlock when I get back.

Those that cannot be civil and polite can take some time off.

If only we could catch dogs in slow motion.  The helper didn't make a perfect catch, that doesn't mean he was at fault.  These things happen fast.  Wouldn't expect you to understand anything about catching a dog, let alone safely or one that comes fast and from underneath.  If you had actually attempted that in your lifetime you'd know about a helper leaving their feet and how that can save a dog.  Things much worse than a missed grip can happen.  But since some have no idea what is being shown to them, it's not exactly surprising they don't know how to process the info.  What would be progress??? if people didn't talk so much about things they have NEVER done

The topic is the video of Ebor and if he had a fair chance to bite the sleeve like the majority of the other dogs.
NOT who is or isn't a decoy or who was there in person. The topic also is NOT Marcus Hamptons skill and how many dogs he had caught successfully. The only topic is this dog in this video

Zdog,

Exactly.

If Marcus had attempted to "scoop" the dog by going low, it would have been disastrous (for the dog).

Beyond that, the dog did catch the sleeve on the turn but then came off.

Bad luck....

The rest of this "discussion" and all of its inevitable tangents will be without me.

Best,

Kevin Nance

I catch my own dogs .. about the only thing I know for sure is the dog should have a stable target moving on the plane it was presented in front as the dog approaches and the helper turns.  If the helper moves the target vertically as or after the dog launches the dog is going to get a bad grip or miss.  I learned not to do this when one of  my females launched as I turned and raised the sleeve vertically by accident which made her miss and as she went under she flipped on her back and tried to get the sleeve upside down and ended up about five feet down range on her back on the ground when she hit.  I then understood the importance of a stable target picture and follow through as the dog approaches and launches.

2013 back half helper work video link .. it shows all the catches but I think there may be one missing??

by neuen Polizei on 08 June 2013 - 01:06

I watched the compilation video for the back half. IMO, it looks like he worked all the dogs as safely and consistent as possible. You have to remember that it isn't the helpers responsibility to make sure the dog gets a good bite or even a bite at all. He didn't do anything different with Ivan's dog than he did with the rest!

After the deal with Django, I wouldn't be surprised if Ivan didn't purposefully train this dog to wait so long to bite on the courage test. I'm sure he's disappointed about the miss bite, but at least the dog is healthy and can continue training!

Ivan and Ebor didn't make the compilation video 2013 AWDF back half protection that I saw .. please give a link if you have another.  The work on the compilation video was excellent but Ivan and Ebor were not shown.
