Why in the hell would anyone put down a dog with allergies without first getting a diagnosis and prognosis from a veterinarian dermatologist?

If this dog has inhalation allergies, all the supplements in the world are not going to give him any long term relief, he will need to be desensitized to the allergens. It is not normal for any dog to lick and chew at itself "all the time". How would you feel if you were so atopic that you needed to scratch at yourself day and night? Wouldn't you want to seek out treatment?

Also to add to the above just so you know;  a dermatologist once told me that when a dog goes through these itchy/chewing/scratching phases that once you find out what the problem is and that is assuming you find out;  it takes 6 weeks of good food and good healthy diet to cleanse the system of the toxins that caused the problem.  fYI  Nan

I have a dog in my rescue that is on raw with Salmon oil and supplements. Thought she had mange so was treated for that. She has been on antibiotics etc with NO relief. She gets regular baths but the scratching continues. I've finally come to the conclusion that its just her. She scratches CONSTANTLY unless she is sleeping (thank god for sleeping) It gets to me once in awhile and Ill tell her to stop itching if its bothering me. The neem oil added to her shampoo has worked some but I think living in the dry desert heat just kills her skin. Nothing has worked other than Predisone but that's really not a long term option. She will be going to her new home this weekend and I hope the new owners don't return her for this. She is scratching right now as I type. Sad Smile

Sounds like allergies.  The vet can test for food and environmental allergies.  I found this site, but I don't know how accurate this allergy testing is:  http://nutriscan.org/home.html .

I really like Dr. Karen Becker's videos:

Barb, if prednisone helps cut back on her scratching that's a solid indication that she suffers from inhalation allergies. You are right, not a long term solution however.

Nutriscan is Jean Dodd's most current in-home allergy test using saliva instead of blood. I would think it is reliable if Jean says it is. It's a fast and easy way to learn if a dog is food intolerant. Proving a food "allergy" can be a nightmare, this sounds so much easier.

Good video. I plan to watch them all.

(Why in the hell would anyone put down a dog with allergies without first getting a diagnosis and prognosis from a veterinarian dermatologist?)

I think you misunderstood my statement.

Either way, people breed these dogs and then wonder what's wrong with them.

People try to make something out of nothing using every gimmick they can and dogs do suffer from it.

You either want to own and raise healthy dogs are you don't.

Maybe I did misunderstand you, Moons. Haven't you used your atopic dog at stud or do you have more than one imported male?  As you said, one either wants to own and breed healthy dogs or they don't.
