Gautam, is this the same pup you started the thread about his weak hindlegs? This pup has gone through quite a lot, trying to find a proper diet and exercise to suit him, did he not? It is very hot where you are, true? India or Pakistan?

Hi Blitzen...... just wanted to put this out there. In the clinic where I work in NJ, we have been finding for the past year that fleas have built up a resistance to the active ingredient in Frontline Plus. Haven't seen resistance in the tick population yet.

Fleas are bionic Teeth Smile. I used Bio-Spot for many years, never saw a flea but I was living in PA then. Switched to Frontline Plus when I moved to FL. I'm back to Bio-Spot again, so far so good but that won't last forever.

I have this same issue right now.  My 9 month old constantly scratches and he has no fleas or ticks.  I have chged food a few times and no change.
I swear he is going to scratch his skin off.  I will have to take him to a vet.  Nice....last thing I need is allergies with a dog.

I have one when the yellow pine pollen starts to fall, he starts to itch and he licks his feet. Vet said Benadryl and Epsom salt bath for the feet..one or.two weeks and he's all better.  Definitely pollen related.

We all need to remember that in as much as this is an international forum, not everyone has access to the vast selection of commercially-prepared foods that we 'enjoy' [or are subjected to] in the US, Canada, etc.  Likewise, not everyone has ready access to veterinary specialists, either--I know from previous discussions on this site with gautam, just finding a competent general veterinary practitioner is a challenge where he's located, so getting allergy testing accomplished is likely going to be difficult as well.

If gautam's dog ONLY scratches in the afternoon, then he needs to look at what things are constant about the afternoon.  Is the dog always in the same location in the afternoons? Is it always in the same time period of the afternoons?  Or is it perhaps that the dog is only being closely and consistently observed in the afternoon?  Flies and gnats may be more active in certain locations during the mid-day; perhaps that's what's triggering the scratching. Is he given a particular type of treat in the afternoon, before the scratching begins?

As has been discussed before, gautam, your dogs will likely fare better if their diet relies more heavily on meats and less on the commercial foods--it doesn't have to be the finest cuts of meat, either.  In fact, they'll do better with organ meats--hearts, liver, kidneys, etc.--then on the lean muscle-cuts; beef, pork, mutton, goat, or poultry are equally acceptable, and whether you cook it or not is entirely up to you [though pork is best fed after being at least frozen if not cooked, to destroy a tapeworm that encysts in the tissue of the pig].

Adding fat to the dog's diet may be helpful, also; likewise, brushing DOES help remove dead skin cells, stimulates blood circulation within the skin and oil production by the sebaceous glands.  In hot and/or dry climates [dry heat, air conditioned housing] it may be necessary to do a light brushing on a daily basis.

I'm saddened to learn Mervin passed away, despite all your efforts to improve his condition. From the videos, he did appear to be a darling little fellow. I take it the itchy dog is Max, then?
