Supposedly, some if the people actually doing the grunt-work of putting on the event are trying to getting streaming video and state that Yee is the impediment.

by zdog on 14 October 2013 - 18:10

The event should be recorded by someone.  If there isn't a professional hired to record and distribute the contest on media, either digital or hardcopy, then competitors at the very least should be able to employ their own videographer.  Again, these are things that are decided up 6 months or more BEFORE a competition.  Not allowing every Tom, Dick and Jane to video an event is common place, usually because their are monetary rights assigned to the recording.  If there aren't pro's hired for this event, I see no reason why people can't record their own for non-commerical purposes.

as for cameras, it's also not uncommon to limit the size of camera/lens.  Usually because venues are packed and nobody wants a D1 camara body with 500mm Lens obstructing their view or hitting people in the back of the head while shooting pics.  Again, a professional is usually hired or granted rights, usually more than one photog is allowed as well.

and again, these are things decided upon months ahead of time.  People should at least be able to apply for a pass to a certain area from which to photograph.  Anything under 200mm should be allowed regardless of the camera it is on.  These things aren't that packed, should be no issue to have a designated photo area or smaller camera's just from your seat.

the vast majority of people are there to watch anyway.  It's a lot of work to photo or video an event and get useable stuff.  Taking great pictures and watchable video is a bit more involved than most care to attempt.  They just want to see the action, so I don't think you have to worry about a stadium full of cameras obstructing everyone's view.

I'm sure we could convince Ed Frawley to show up with his camera.  Rules or no rules!

Yes , Spot on
Never mind us 1000,s of IPO Handlers who will never see the Guys performing in the competition; How will the handlers competing feel when there is no record of there performances I guess they will be gutted, and what about the Winner he will have nothing to look back on and in effect the event will mean nothing, all because of stupid rules from a country that says WE are free? i am damned if you are not. We have no restrictions on anything like this in Europe, the only difference is that it is against the Law to carry a fire arm otherwise we can very much do as we like and live the life we want without any restrictions at all. i cannot say that for the USA when such an enjoyable basic thing can be stopped. FOR WHAT REASON, no one has said what harm can this do, it certainly does not bother the other people watching the event near you or next to you by using a camera they are so engrossed on watching the pair on the work field so why is it.
The ones organizing and holding this event should never get the chance of doing it again. some will not like the reference of freedom but if such a thing can be stopped by the powers to be then that to me is not free to do as you want. However that will not get us coverage of the event and that is all we are asking for.

Den Wolf
Many thanks for trying to help us Guys it is most appreciated

Steve you need to get out more.  You are far to angry at a country you've learned about from a few on a mostly ridiculous website.    I am certain you can't walk into any venue in Europe and set up shot to broadcast live streaming events over the internet for a cost or buy a ticket and go sit in the stands with my canon and 500mm lens to shoot pics.  Not without proper authorization and paying a fee like everywhere else in the world at a pro level.

Bwahaha, Slamdunc....

Actually Steve at concerts it is incredibly annoying when everyone around you is filming and using their popup flash on their pocket camera 300 feet from stage thinking they are taking good pics and holding their brightly glowing phones and iPads in your face while you are trying to enjoy a show you've waited over a year to see and queue for over 24 hours in the cold.  I've told people to knock it off and even pushed their arms down many times.  US stadiums weren't built with dog events in mind, they host concerts and sports games that usually happen in the dark.  What is printed on the tickets is just the normal procedure for this type of venue, it was not printed specifically for this event.  There is a press area for actual photographers and videographers that have good equipment and you would get the appropriate pass to photo or video the event, not sit up in the stands and bother people with all your gear.  A dog event such as the WUSV is probably a once-in-lifetime event for a venue like this.

Many venues in Europe have the same/similar rule. It's a bit melodramatic to bash an entire country and bring up gun laws over a stadium rule.  I don't get to see any of the event either so I totally get that you are bumming. If the competitors are desperate for pro footage of their performances I hope they complain to the organizing committee.

I think Ed is enjoying life too much at the moment.  But regardless what you think of him, he's brought access to dog sports to more people than anyone else in this country and that just irks some :)  So sue the man.  he found a niche, worked hard at it, and made some money.

It depends on what you mean by getting out more. on that front i guess i have been to more places than most on here, and not some i want to go again. but to get back to the point. of course Live Stream Video needs permission we are not talking about Live Stream; We are talking about a Camera which is normally only 6+5+4 inches max. If someone wants to do Livestream then it has to be arranged prior we all know that but ordinary dog people who have paid to go in should not need anything else if they want to take a Picture or two even a Video camera is small and believe me there will be plenty of space in those stands according to the photos of them they will not fill that place up by a long way. they never have in the WUSV Championships i have been to, I hope a lot of people go but it will not fill up and there will be plenty of space to move about in so no one is going to be hassled.
I am not talking about Concerts that does not apply here as suggested plus the fact i do not go to concerts and have no interest in them. When i was a teenager there were no concerts to go to plus the fact soon after i was travelling the World for a time at the expense of H.M Govrenment doing an unsavoury job. so i know what i am talking about on that score. anyway at least Den Wolf tried hard to get it done but through no fault of hers if she cannot get an answer. and the longer they delay in giving an answer the better it is for them
The fault lies with the people or organization running the event. they must have applied for it some time back so it is those who have the final say in anything all they need to do is run the event according to the rules of the WUSV. Entertainment or Video Recording such as LIve Stream does not come under the WUSV it is a matter for the ones running the event to sort out or not, but the banning of cameras and video cameras is really not on in this case. hopefully they will never get another go
