LOL, the AKC standard asks for an efficient gait too.

Gait
A German Shepherd Dog is a trotting dog, and its structure has been developed to meet the requirements of its work. General Impression-- The gait is outreaching, elastic, seemingly without effort, smooth and rhythmic, covering the maximum amount of ground with the minimum number of steps.

That describes an efficient gait.

Over reaching at a SV show is considered incorrect. At AKC show it is promoted.

Might be considered incorrect, but it's common in the SV ring too. The GSL's are starting to look more and more like the ASL's. Photoshop out the roaches and refine the heads on the last 12 or so Siegers and you have an ASL in a shaggier coat. IMO the GSL females are the exceptions and far better than the males. Most I've seen still retain the nice athletic look of a real working dog.

It still goes back to the age old problem and how people intrepret the standard(s).  Thanks for sharing the articles though loved the pic's...  Nan

I agree, the females tend to be more athletic.

We will see what direction the SV goes with its new head koermiester.
Hopefully it will stop the overangulated hind quaters......IMO its detrimental to the breed.

Personal preference is a straight backed GSD and use them for working.  I have a friend that absolutely will not own a straight backed dog and prefers the severe slope.

imo, IF the standard were the same, at least everyone would have the same starting point .... LOL

I finished reading the whithers paper and now reading into the back paper, very good work and a real brilliant paper, I disagree on some points but can't comment till I am done reading it.

See right there the way the standard defines an efficient gait says everything about why the breed is shaped by low IQ people just making shit up.

its worse than wrong, its delusion that creates illusion.

best thing for the breed is start culling the breed experts at the top and work your way down.

Stop guessing and making shit up pay someone who actually knows what they are talking about to tell what to think so you look less foolish.

didn't read the articles, just commenting on the standard definition of efficient.
