GSD Lineage

StormGSD, Fascinating!
Your pup has bloodlines from many countries!
1. United States / Example: Kahl Drogo Von Reitzelhaus
(Sire listed as Black from Black/Red parents)
2. Germany / Example: Diva vom Seebachtal
3. Yugoslavia / Example: Fantom Topolovnicki
4. Belgium / Example: Taco 't Palmaleinehof
5. Hungary / Example: Lieb-Hund Feniz Mother of Ryan's Star of Sunbeam Acres
6. Italy / Example: VA6 Dux della Valcuvia Father of V(PHIL.) Adria Topolovnicka

I notice there is also an AKC "UR" Dog in the pedigree on the mother's side called Rico Rey Von Lopez.
I think that means "unregistered" ? anyone?

I have a little trouble reading the pedigree screenshot as the text and numbers are a bit small. If you create a gallery on Storm's Ruger Roar's page and upload the original screen shot's in that gallery they mabe be easier to see, because the galleries take larger images without sizing down the way forum does. Or, you can copy the text/html from those AKC research pedigrees and paste them directly in forum, maybe one at a time or in sections.

I'd really like to help get the pedigrees entered with the numbers and everything correct as well as complete entire the 6 generations not yet in the database, unless you wanted that fun for yourself. Clever Very Awesome looking puppy and I still think it is a Dominant black and just that some miss labeling of color happened at some point on the paternal grandparents. You could always test for color if you wanted to really know. All these images of the pup as well as any others could go in that gallery if you want as well.

Jenni78, is Eliot? a Sable? I really liked that one.

Where did the father get the black color from? Just curious...

I hate the American way of naming dogs - it´s almost impossible to track down dogs...

Susie, with the way of naming dogs in the US it can be hard to follow for sure, and also sometimes the colors are entered wrong by the owners.

StormGSD, look at this puppy. Does it look like yours?

Lineage, yes, Eliot is sable. Eliot, Eris, and Elaina are sable. The rest are black and red (or blue and red, but still, same genes).

Susie, if you look at that pedigree and some of the goofy American names and breedings, I would guess that there were some pups that inexperienced breeders didn't register correctly in terms of color. Either there are sables back there that were labeled black and tan or black and red, or this pups has simply got a lot of bleeding. I have mentioned it 3 times now....we need to see under his tail, his belly, and pics of his sire IF his sire has been proven to be his sire, but with his sister, I am not doubting the pairing....but maybe the pedigree.

Storm, have you asked the opinion of his breeder what color they consider him to be?  That would be the best place to start.  Just saying.

Hutchins, if he's registered black, who would you presume did that if not the breeder?

In my experience bleed through is usually on the feet and legs.

This is a sable. IMHO

I have a friend who has a bicolor that was marked like that as a pup. She was around 6 months when I met her and had those lighter markings around her shoulder area much like the background side-shot the OP posted. I asked if she was a sable and was told no, she's a bicolor and that the silvery tannish markings were just her losing her puppy coat yet. I should also mention that this pup is out of a pretty well-known working kennel here in the US, and that she has a VERY nice pedigree. Anyway, at a little over a year old now, she is a perfectly (and beautifully) marked bicolor, not a misplaced colored hair on her.

Depends on the pedigree and the color the black is masking, GSDAdmin. I would agree with it "usually" being on legs and feet, but my Beauty has bleeding on her flanks & belly area. Both her parents were black and half her grandparents, but if you look at the top, you'll see a somewhat similar situation to the OP as far as black coming from dogs that you'd be a little surprised carry black (Quint and Terry, if you look at the dog, not the ped). https://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=562732-beauty-krasnoocko

A really good sun picture and................under the tail! would help a lot, I think. Also sun pics of fur pushed back so we can see if they're sable hairs or lighter colored hair woven in.

Rico Rey Vom Lopez is NOT listed in the AKC's on-line records as an AKC-registered dog, so it would seem something's odd there. Guess it could be a foreign registration, though that would seem odd given that his sire is from a former US kennel [Beth Coats, vom Eichen Hugel], but that was one of the possibilities the site offered as to why Rico Rey Vom Lopez 'could not be found' when I tried to search for him both by name and by the registration number shown on the research pedigree above.  But---

Um. Yeah....perhaps this could have some bearing on this mysterious coat coloration. This appears to be the kennel where Ari vom Eichen Hugel stood at stud; now, take a look at some of the pics from their facebook page:

I present these without editorial comment.
