The vent will tell the story. From all the pics I have looked at this is a sable.

Sorry it's dark before I go to work and once I get home now... so these are indoor pics.  But some more photos of Ruger, I think I got most of what you guys asked for... I should be able to get a sun photo tomorrow though.  Will post more then.  Thanks guys!

And I may have some helpful info on the UR dog Rico Rey... my pup's dam is UKC and AKC registered

Rico Rey Von Lopez is UKC registered # P558-950... and fyi he's registered as "red"

my pup's sire, dam, one grandsire, and both granddams are UKC registered... everyone is dual registered except I guess Rico?  I'm not sure how that works

Oh boy, Hexe! Omg Smile

Methinks my 6th sense hasn't failed me...

Jenni78 can you explain what you mean?  I'll admit I'm getting a bit lost here

Sure, Storm. I was planning on it but doing some more research so I can show you what I meant better...

Ok, forget my extra research. I think you can see plenty from the site Hexe linked to. As we suspected, there is MORE than a "slight chance" your pup is not full GSD, hence the odd coloration. Your pup has color pattern common in other breeds and mixes of other breeds. The very black mask and legs are not uncommon in the other breeds shown on the website. Malinois & Dutchies are all bred with GSDs for the production of working dogs...and sometimes, by accident. Wink Smile  This can result in a solid black dog that appears to be a black GSD. There are blacks in both breeds but the black gene works differently, ie, what we see in your pup's unwavering mask. A red Mal can have black legs and a black mask. I still think he isn't sable, though if he has sable Mals in his ped, it's possible. I just don't see it in his vent area, though the pic is so blurry it's pretty impossible to tell much.

Basically, we're trying to assign GSD color patterns to him and I think he's got black masking a typical Malinois color pattern. Look at his markings and then look at a KNPV Mal/GSD/Dutchie or whatever cross.

Basically, there's a reason you've got UKC and AKC reg...and one dog not AKC reg...and registered UKC as "red." It's a Malinois.

I still want to see pics of his sire to confirm.  No offense to Storm, but I think I might see something different than what she says (I hope you're a "she" Storm ;) ) looks like a black GSD.

Example of a light dog w/black mask and legs- scroll down to the dog named "Eris." http://www.ruidosomalinois.com/green-dogs-sold.htm

So what is the final opinion ? He is a cross? Not a pure GSD? Need to know please
