vk doesn't know what the Universal Sieger is or what it taks to earn the title. Hell, he doesn't even know what an AD and a BH mean. Maybe he's amusing himself by goading us into arguing with him?

^ this i do not get, is the points thing every weekend because there are a different group of dogs showing so you have to compete against all of them individually so to speak to prove yourself?

can't they have selection trials instead?

i talk to show people that say they are competing against the same dogs from show to show.

i don;t get it, i suspect yr answer will be long so please don't bother i am not that interested.

ETA i guess i can't tell the difference between a breed survey and a show, the breed survey is done once and that stays with the dog forever where a show you can go from being top dog to crap every other week, is that correct?

vk, I'll bet if you google all those questions on the net you will come up with explainations. Either that or go to some training classes and talk to people who have been doing all the things you are curious about. Do you train with a club? Isn't there anyone in OZ you can talk to who will help you understand all the nuances of showing dogs in all the venues that interest you?  What about the person who bred your puppy? Can't he or she help you out?  Contact Kevin privately. He can give some links where you can read all about what it takes to be the Universal Sieger. Good luck.

vk, you're not messing with us, are you?

Hexe, I hope Ravi still reads here so he knows we are thinking about him and wondering how his current dog is coming along. This is the only GSD forum I read, so I haven't heard much from him for quite a while.

i wasn't wasn't messing around but it's all good, it's not my world, was just fleetingly curious.

the gsd people here do their own thing with their own rules because the germans apparently don't know anything about the gsd. in fact the akc show crowd and the gsd crowd generally have separate shows and titles and are snooty toward each other but a gsd can show in our version of akc.

as far as my breeder, that's pretty funny, i might ask him.

Quote," There is as much money and influence in working lines as show"......I won't even comment on that quote, except to say, REALLY?

It would be informative to have a discussion on the Universal Sieger event. It's a relatively new event having been done on the National level for awhile but relatively new to the world level with the WUSV event.

This concept is slow to start and it's going to be awhile to catch on if it ever really does. Why? No one is really prepared for it. There are those that pioneered the path like Ravi, Kevin and Cheryl, Erin and Doug, and Karen. But for the most part the way show and working dogs are normally done will not get you there.

We can see the mindset in this discussion. The dog should do both. Our show dogs are titled and surveyed, our working dogs can run around the ring if they had to. What's the big deal, just go ahead and do both. All that stuff those other folks are doing with their dogs can't be that difficult.

Problem is, you have to bring a dog up to be both. The typical wait until your show dog looks good enough to start training doesn't work. By the time you figured out the conformation was good enough to be a good show dog and they had some drive as a puppy, the opportunity to be competitive at the National or World level is behind you. You have to start them out with the long term goal in mind from the beginning. Not all handlers, trainers, and training opportunities can get you there.

Dog1....I have seen a working Bundesseigerprufund winner trained and participated in the biggest breed conformation show in the world,( with progeny group to boot), this is not probable or possible in the reverse at this point in time, no matter when you start training that dog.

I guess if it were easier a lot more GSD owners would be aspiring to have the Universal Sieger and Siegerin.
