Star turned 8 this January. I still send her breeder e-mails every time she does something significant, even though he is no longer breeding dogs. And I'm sure Melissa and I will be in touch for a long time to come...

Thank you, Paul. Melissa says she looks just like her paternal grand-dad. And when I'm in the kitchen, that's her favourite spot...right at my feet!  She doesn't beg, she just likes to stay close (because she loves me in case I drop something...Roll eyes)

Oh, and Ranger's original owner (even though he claimed he was going to shoot the dog if no one adopted him!) still asks after him every time my mom and I visit. (He's a neighbour of hers, and I've had the dog for 10 years now.)

I think he actually cared for the dog more than he let on, and knew the dog wasn't in a good situation because he had to be away from home so much with his contracting business.

Ranger's body language will tell you how HE feels about the situation... Teeth Smile

I'm glad to hear that. My obsession with these pups....well, it's just as if they were my kids. I think & worry about that pup every day. I'm glad to know I'm not crazy. I actually worry about all of them, but knowing that 1 has been keeping his owner, who had a stroke, company & keeping his wife feeling safe; 2 other pups have families that adore them & send me pictures frequently, another pup is his owners pride & joy, I get pictures from him at least twice a year. And of course I have 2 of them....silly girls. I could never be a "breeder"....! But I would still take any puppy back, even though they are almost...wow...7? years old, can that be true? And their owners know that!

Jackie, do you actually have the new address the family moved to ?

In which case maybe you could send them an Easter card, and enquire about

the dog that way ?

I'm sure they'd love to hear about Dr. Ansgar alerted you that there was something seriously not right with your abdomen, and how she continued to monitor you even after the surgery to let you know if she detected anything was still amiss--that's their dog's sister, after all, and I know I'd sure want to know about that if she were my dog's sister!

There are several really good, free people-search sites on the web, and you can generally find what you're seeking even if all you have is a name and the last known address...

I had a phone call this evening.....a little voice on the other end asking where her dog was, I told her the dog was here with me. The little, sad voice said, l want her Home! The father had called me earlier and we had a long, heart to heart talk...he told me he and his wife felt like a member of the family was gone. Seeing how the dog greeted him, the man holding her, hugging her, while she licked his face and went nuts with joy was reassuring. She won't need to be howling to locate her family tonight.

OHG Joanro, I hope  your heart did not break.  Nan

PS:  Keep in your mind how discrimating the bastard was about your puppy, NO  THANK  YOU...

by hexe on 03 March 2015 - 02:03

Yeah, Nans, but that little girl's heart would be irreparably broken, and her trust in her daddy woud be shattered, if her puppy didn't come back home... We can only hope he had a real attitude adjustment, and the pup will never again be looked at with even a speck of disappointment. Should the day ever come when that little girl needs her dog to protect her, it's not the pup's ears that whatever is threatening her kid is going to be watching...

joanro, in general I don't even like kids, but there is no way I could have turned that little girl down when she asked for her puppy to come back home, either. I hope the kid's father remembers how close he came to causing utter destruction in his family's life.

LOL @ Hexe ("in general, I don't even like kids"). Me neither, me neither!!! And same here. I may be getting soft in my old age but gosh, that is a heartbreaker of a phone call.

Joan, this tool got to undo a serious mistake. I hope he knows how lucky his sorry ass is.

Thank you, guys. Believe me, I gave him an ear full when he called this afternoon. I reminded him of a news story some time ago where a slimeball kidnapped a small child out of her bedroom. He was carrying her across the front yard in the dark. But the next door neighbor's black lab was raising such a ruckus barking from his fenced yard that the scum put the kid down and ran. I told him there is no way their dog will let anyone touch their daughter without doing the same for her. Told him there are so many things that can go wrong with a pup, soft ears are a good problem to have.
