And here's the other "coyote", the female, who can be as gentle with a child/toddler, as she's an intruder's nightmare:

The " beauty" of the dog is in the utility.

by Blitzen on 09 July 2015 - 18:07

I didn't get the impression that Allan was referring to every dog, only those with the temperaments he mentioned as being undesirable to him..

by Blitzen on 09 July 2015 - 18:07

I'm a show person, but those dogs look pretty good to me. I don't like to judge dogs based only on their pedigrees....it's never a correct analysis.

by Blitzen on 09 July 2015 - 18:07

Sunsilver, I think your dog is turning out really nice. It sounds like you are pleased with her and that's what matters.

Yes, I got that impression too, Blitzen. He certainly wasn't tarring them all with the same brush.

by Allan1955 on 10 July 2015 - 10:07

Blitzen and Sunsilver are right, that was not my intension.

I only wanted to express my concern about a certain trend i see on the fields today. And doesn't involve every single workingline.

I wiil try to explain.

Where i said; in extreem cases looks like coyote. I meant the trend of wanting lighter and smaller dogs to fit the sport.  Germanshepherd-light as someone called them on an other tread. A striking likeness imo.

To be clear i don,t seek oversized dogs but i do think a male GSD should weigh 88 to 90 lbs according to the standard. Not bigger than the standard but with strong musculature and and good bone density.

Where i mensioned; monotously barking outside the pitch. I meant the state of mind that produce that kind of barking. Barking in combination with the eyes tells me a lot about a dog.

And imo that is not the state of mind a gsd should be in at any given time.

My concern is that these  dogs will get their IPO (exam) title and will appear on gsd pedigrees in the future, but missing the very essence of what makes the gsd a breed apart from all workingbreeds.

aaykay; your coyotes are truly gorgeous

BlackMalinois, what a nasty, cruel thing to say about someone else's litters. I'm guessing there are plenty of peope who feel the same about your dogs - wouldn't own one if they were free but have enough sense to keep it to themselves. You dont even have GSD's do  you? How dare you judge which dogs are "real quality" and how much they are worth? How rude......don't you care how these owners would feel if they read your post?

This is my dog some of you are sick of hearing about, lol...sorry but....

He is a well known and highly respected dual purpose police k9 with NYS Police in NY.

He IS A German Shepherd dog, plain and simple. His bloodline consists of dogs known as GSL and dogs that are considered workingline DDR dogs.

Most important, he is a very well rounded dog. Goes out and does his job as polce dog on a daily basis, comes home to his family after work, and does his job as family protector and member of family who demonstrates a great love of 'his' kids.

Regardlesx of lines, he IS, AGerman Shepherd dog, true to the breed...
