Not true, Templars! Half the time when an inexperienced couple calls to inquire about a dog, the man says their old dog was 130lbs, and his wife pipes up from the background, "No he wasn't! Duke weighed 80 pounds!" Happens often. My groomer says the same thing happens to her- men say the dog is humongous and women say the dog is half the size it really is. LOL

I also have had many, many people (novices) inquire about my dogs or pups and say they are too small. If they think they're "too small," there's almost zero chance they'd be a good fit, anyhow.

I have a friend who only looks at ads that say "Oversized male/female GSD"

Yes, Ibrahim. Happens very very often. So often that I can see exactly why those making a living selling dogs will pander to the masses and breed Mastiff-type GSDs.

Size is not an easy thing to control.  In Germany it is not always possible to rely on the survey report.  Size is now so inbred in Germany it will take generations to reduce.  When Hermann Martin was in charge he often described dogs as middle size but to him middle size was only in relation to the othe dogs around him.  Many  of the top dogs at this time were described as being 65 cm whereas they were around 69/70 cm.  The Siegers

Fanto v Hirshel and Quando v Arminius are two such examples.

Mac, why always blame H. Martin? The dogs were oversized before him and they are still oversized. He didn´t invent this game, he only played.

I asked my friend who boards the Homeland Security dogs  the sexes and to estimate the weight of those dogs. Her response:

Mainly Males, not altered, around 70 to 80 lbs, more & more of them are coming in as Malinois-Shep X, a little smaller and a lot crazier.

Susie - As President of the SV Herr Martin had an obligation to be truthful.  Everyone was depending on him to keep the breed on track for the betterment of the breed as a whole.  Not to turn a blind eye to the problems that were arising on his watch.

"Arising on his watch" ???
I´m with you in case you say HE SHOULD HAVE CHANGED A LOT TO THE BETTER, BUT HE DIDN´T,  but that would be truth for all our presidents...

Susie - I am not alone in saying these things.  His own dog Fedor v Arminius pedigree is not correct.

Let's agree to disagree ~ doesn't change the present at all.
