blitzen what do you expect, for everybody to join in and cheer and agree on everything, many times people name a great dog or kennel where I dont agree for some reason, I stopt writing things down that I know or see about many things, but actually I think it is ok to comment both good and bad

Look Duke, Brady Bee, et al you guys could really could be  more respectful of other's opinions about dogs. Note the OP specifically asked to keep this friendly, Any chance that can ever happen on this forum? Isn't there a more "friendly" way of criticisizing a dog than this - Imho his bitework was an embarrassment. He looks cow hocked, and his movement was horrendous. He could knit a jumper at the rear . Nice pigment though! Are you trying to say that was a "humble" opinion not meant to demean that dog, the judges who put him up,  and the poster/s who like him?

Because of the cost of personally viewing all the dogs I may be interested in, I have to rely on the breeding, performance, and any information I can gather from people that I respect their opinion. I do get interested in some young dogs based on that criteria and watch to see if I they excell or not. Much like I may pick a sport team based on my like of some of the players in it and wanting them to win. I don't base any life changing decisions on it, but it is information I can draw on later when I make a big decision. In the IPO ranks I notice dogs from kennels with good track records, and breeding I like. In alphabetical order I like Aritar Bastet, Eqidius, Straatsmacht dogs.

I am drawn to dogs that fit my "style" which may be totally different than someone else or even the dogs that win. One of the young dogs that gathers my attention now is Chester Eqidius, maybe not well known, maybe not win, but I just like what I see.

There is no right or wrong, it is all personal preference.

Did what? How then do you suggest that buyers know that dogs are as good as their breeders say they are if they aren't titled in one venue or another? I can't name one single breeder on this forum who has ever been given good marks by every one of their buyers, so recommendations don't seem to be of much real value. I've seen videos of dogs some are trying to sell to posters here represented as great show prospects which they certainly are not. Based on what I've seen where I train, I'm guessing that WL breeders are no more honest about their dogs than those with SL's. I've seen some big WL flops from well very well known kennels in the US and Europe. So, no titles, then where is the proof that one's dogs are as good as they say they are?

Blitzen, word of mouth. I have recommended duke to a number of people looking for good WL dogs over the years...I have never met him, have never seen a dog from him that he raised and titled, but I have always heard and read good things about his dogs. I don't title my own dogs personally anymore, I'm too old and crippled up to do it, BUT, I have GIVEN good pups that I held back because I wanted them titled or at least trained in a venue for real work, such as search and rescue, detection work, etc. And with no strings attached. I have been rediculed and insulted for not titling dogs I breed, and then get insulted, ridiculed for being proud of any pup I placed into a home to be titled and that accomplishes that, as tho I'm being a hypocrite....well for some people it doesn't matter what a breeder does, its open season. If a breeder knows what their dogs are and has tested them, they can produce pups that can work anywhere, the titles don't change what the dogs produce.

Most people do their own research but to buy unseen is sheer folly.  For all the people who do the research and see the dog there are not enough who will be prepared to come away with nothing.

Arre vom Hühnegrab also caught my eye when i went through the BSZS results. i generally always filter for the best hd/ed and lowest zw first. but when i saw his TSB and gait... crossed him off the list

currently interested in Leo von der Zenteiche. He´s already made VA though, low zw, fascinating gait and movement, good character and reputation in germany and german gsd net. Bad TSB
also watching and researching jimmy von der zenteiche. his back looked very steep and he was overangulated in a pic, but when i saw a video he was above average VAs, Vs and SGs. Zw is 73 hd/ed a normal

Well, Joanro, if every GSD breeder would have your ethics, we wouldn't need to be having this conversation. Sadly most I know of do not. For example recently saw a video from a breeder in Euorpe trying to sell a WL puppy to a friend in the US and to say that puppy was unsound and the video was taken in a way to try to cover up all it's faults by not showing it standing or gaiting alone is being nice. The pup clearly had generalized demodex as well as some other obvious conformation faults including a shark jaw and probably an overshot bite - she wasn't shown that. When asked about those things, that breeeder became all defensive and stated the pup would outgrow it. Neither parent was titled or breed surveyed. Could it have happened if they were? Of course, but when the breeder is unknown to the buyer it and there is no reliable recoomendations, then titles are better than nothing. You and I both know another relatively well known breeder who routinely pulls those stunts on their buyers. He doesn't title or breed survey either far as I know.
