bubba showing pics of puppies, smiley faced pet owners and tall stories of could have beens is not evidence of anything.

dog breeders in general, at least the majority that post on forums, clearly lack any form of rigour, it is just pretty thoughts and ideals.

dog breeders seem like such air-heads in general.

smiley's post adds evidence to my claims.

Damned near as sickening as know-it-all trolls with their very first GSD coming here only to incite. What would you recommend that admin does with members like that, vk?

by vk4gsd on 11 March 2015 - 21:03

i recommend that admin charge a fee per view and per post of every member that makes money off breeding and selling puppies.

i further recomend that once a designated post / vid ratio has been exceeded by a member then the member gets banned.

lastly i recommend that people that use the PDB as a FB sub be banned.

thank you for blitz allowing me to share my recomendations.

You didn't answer my question, vk.

Vk, if it was not for breeders, there would not exist Pedigree Data Base. If it was not for breeders, you would not own your gsd. If it was not for breeders, there would not be any such thing as a 'Newb'.

It's not even a question whether a German Shepherd is versatile or not...To me a German Shepherd has to be a versatile dog...but I want and breed for High Drive dogs that are capable of doing High Level work...Not be just a pet... ... ...Not just Schutzhund or this or that but capable of doing a number of different things...But my dogs aren't for everyone and a lot of people would say they're just a "pain in the ass" type dogs...That's ok...'cause they're not for everyone and everyone shouldn't own one...

I just feel that when you breed you should have a GOAL...That doesn't mean all the puppies will be capable of doing that...but it's what you want to breed for...No matter what anyone says...Breeding is still a Crap Shoot...It's just that you try to narrow down what you want...

There can be a number of reasons you choose to Mix Working lines with Show lines...

I own a Longcoat WL/SL cross who has done well in the USCA shows (2xSG-1 in the MidCentral Region and SG-2 in his class at the 2014 USCA Sieger Show).  I also own a very well bred SL female (also SG-1 rated) and when I take them both out, he's the one who gets the attention.  I agree that there are many reasons to breed SL's to WL's, but one should have a clear objective in mind both physically and temperamentally.  Not all dog buyers want a high prey drive dog, a competition or show dog, but they all want a dog that minds well.  Because of this, I like dogs with a goodmeasure of pack drive.  You (OP) go ahead and do your homework and ask opinions from those who want to help you do it right and not those who seek to hinder. You'll be able to identify them.

GSD Lineage

Really the biggest difference I see between the lines is just the color.

Go down the worklist it is all practically Sables, Black Sables and Blacks with a Bicolor thrown in now and then.
http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/workresults.html
Go Down the VA Showlist it is an endless sea of Black and reds with the odd pattern sable (Sables that Carry Tan Point Saddle)
http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/siegershow_winners.html
And, there used to be Black Sable VA dogs as well as saddle backed so called working dogs in the past.

charlie319, In the past you were not even allowed to show a long hair. I like that Jenni and Buba went to the work of sharring real examples and results... (and PICTURES:)
