Bubba,

That was a very rational response!

The issue was that you compared those who don't cross the different lines to racists and having the same ideals as Hitler.

And no, I don't think biracial marriages were legalized due to a biological need, I believe it was legalized because it was agreed that it was unconstitutional to not allow different races to marry.

So using the illogic that choosing dogs based on structure for breeding is equal to prejudice regarding humans......that means dogs must be sent to school same as children...the SAME schools and they must never be left home alone or CPS will need to take them into protective custody. And being as they must be treated equally to human children, they Must wear cloths to school, the very same schools human children attend. The dogs will have to aquire a marriage license and be married in the church before they have puppy children, else they will be living in sin.....when at school, the dogs, or should we stop calling them that, as it may offend them to be called 'dog', the word does discriminate them from humans after all...anyway, when at school, the for legged children must not be restricted from running anywhere and doing whatever comes natural to them, you know, like lifting their leg on the teacher's desk...yeah, that's the ticket...equal rights for dogs, no more leash laws or fences. 'Don't fence me in' is the theme song for the new liberated, four legged humans.

All I have heard from a lot of you so called working line GSD groupies is that working line and show line should not be interbred.  That was the original post question. Those who have actually done the breeding of working line and show line and aren't just blowing smoke reported good results but the facts are never enough to change people who put prejudice before biology.  I am a biologist and a scientist and there is no scientific reason to not cross working and show lines that is fact based.  Maintaining the purity of the working blood lines is pure BS as no reputable GSD Organization even acknowledges any difference between working and show lines in their registry.  The idea that so called working line competition dogs or police k9's are the best of the GSD is laughable.  I have bred enough dogs which have gone into many lines of work to know that police dogs are not the top of the breed any more than IPO or KNPV sport dogs.  Most of those blowing smoke about police dogs and IPO dogs ignore the most important part of any breeding program for the GSD which are the females who get little (IPO) or no ( police ) attention in breeding for those two tiny parts of the GSD world.

WL is best for those who desire their traits. At the same time, SL is BEST for those who desire sl traits. People who can't see the difference want to blend them. There is no sense in arguing over which is better,SL or WL. But it is also senseless to redicule and demean by suggesting that those who prefer not to mash to two lines together are as demented as Hitler and his cronies. That notion is beyond absured. Noone is going to prevent anyone from mushing the two lines up if they want. Make it complete throughout the breed, however, and I bet the showdog fanciers will have something to say. Don't forget, we are talking about dogs, not humans.

but do at least one of the parent's have reverse masks or not is the real question.

not even trying to be racist here.

The exclusion based on a generalized phenotype and not based on individual skills and characteristics was Hitler's justification for extermination.  The Nazi's did extensive phenotypic studies of Jews and Roma peoples and used the BS they generated from their fake science to justify ghettos and extermination.  The insinuation that all show line dogs have roached backs and inferior working ability is right up Hitler's alley and that is the propaganda the working line groupies spout at every turn.  I have mostly so called working line but I have had show line and show line crosses with working line and there has been good, better and best in all three insignificant designations.

some of this stuff is way out of line for a discussion on dogs, which I think is what many people frequent this board for. one's preference for producing the  GSD that meets the goal they strive for is just that, a preference, not an exterminion of millions of people.

at the high end this preference is based on experience producing dogs successful in meeting those goals.

at the lower end it's just puppy sellers looking for another angle to dupe uninformed buyers.

It takes a really sick SOB to compare the horrors suffered by millions of people to what people like or don't like in a dog.

and that's all I got to say about that.

What about breeding white GSD's, racist???

The genetic saturation between working lines and show lines is vastly different. Extensive lack of genetic diversity eventually will lead to an increase in physical, mental, and health maladies. I am retired as a Developmental Disability Professional (35 years), and I have owned, worked, bred, ASL, GSL, West working lines, Czech Lines, DDR lines, and German Shepherds BEFORE there were these lines. I have done a WL x SL breeding ......once.

I don't know everything on this subject, but I suspect i probably have enough hands on experience to have a decent opinion. Anyway, I enjoy reading the experts of today, that often have very limited experience on the subject matter they speak.Wink Smile
