There is no working line or show line .. that is a construct of human folly and conceit ,, every dog has a different tool set and IPO titles do not prove anything other than the owner wanted an IPO title as I am sure the dog could care less about any title. I would look at the strengths and weaknesses of your female and find a male that has the strengths that your dog needs improvement on. There is nothing wrong with any mating based on phoney classifications such as show or working line since those classifications are meaningless at the level of the individual dog. The GSD is a utility and herding breed based on genetics and a service dog, herding dog, nose work dog, agility dog, or biting sport dog is not the best of the GSD breed, Proficiency in a particular training area or sport does not prove breed superiority or breed worthiness for all sports or training areas. Plenty of crap GSD police dogs out there so biting does not define the GSD as a breed. Training for agility or real tracking (not IPO obedience tracking) combined with good physical and mental attributes says as much as anything IPO titles say and that combined with the fact that IPO as a biting sport is slowly dying of it's own poisons says don't buy into the biting dog sport myths.

Not all peol,e who sell dogs for pets are backyard breeders either. Many of the dogs i breed go to be pets. The difference is, "I hope and pray", that everyone is 'capable' of doing police work, or to be able to provide their owner the op
opportunity to have fun with their dog, be it club level competition, rally, frisbee, dock diving.
The main goal is to provide healthy, stable dogs with intelligence, and all the attributes that make up a correct German Shepherd.
The fact that some of us think outside the box, is, in my opinion, good for the breed. But first you must educate yourself.
I know here in NY state, the police will utilize a dog FROM the dog pound, not put them there. I give mine to police for free...donate, for the benefit of the breed. If a dog did not make it, it wojld be returned to me not placed in pound.
I cross SL and WL on a regular basis. I have waiting lists for my dogs. The co ordinater for the NYS Police told me he would be happy if every k9 officer in NY had one of my dogs. Not bad to hear...rather flattering actually.
ANY dogs you breed must co p,iment each other. Not all SL to SL breeding produces quality, nor does every WL to WL,
before you do breed, you must have people lined up for what you are 'planning', and...most importantly...YOU MUST BE PREPARED TO KEEP ANY UNSPOKEN FOR PUPPY....AND...as a respknsi le breeder, be prepared to take back any DOG...not just puppy, you produced.

Thanks for your time those were very instructed answers . The more I. Look at my dog the more I like her. I'm not a trainer but I've managed to teach my dog a bunch of commands in half the time I did with my previous one . I'm not saying that's a hell of a smart dog but I have really good feeling about that . even as a pet I know we're gonna have fun and a good bond.
Thanks again.

Yes everyone starts out where you are, and yes some have bred dogs that shouldn't have been bred.
Take the advice of others who have been doing this a long time, so you yourself don't make some poor choices.
Breeding quality dog or not, your girl seems to be in good health and in a good home.

minute, have posters noticed the increase in the number of people
who were into Sports & Work and have never stacked a dog, never
considered doing it ... now attempting stacks with their dogs in order
to get evaluations / critiques from the photos from PDB participants ?
Says to me us SL folk have had some influence, and the rise of SV
Shows is a further factor.

Hate to bust the big iridescent bubble here, but the 'people who WERE into sports and work' have been stacking their dogs to be koered for ever....so turnabout should be fare play; They can do what you sl people can do ( stack their dogs) now your turn to do what THEY do with their dogs.

Let's all quit this fruitless debate now please, we all know it's going further down the toilet every second. Think the OP has enough expert info/advice, lol, lol. to be going on with
Joanro..Question, on the last page you typed, and I quote " Plus, the op has the important people behind him. Sound advice not needed :-) "
Who are these important people you speak of?

So should workingline breeders, Linda. There are plenty of litters from untitled/unproven GSD's of all pedigrees bred annually as well . Is a GSD a "real working dog" if it's not titled?
If the SV rules were followed by every breeder that would end the debate. As it is most can't even agree on what a real working dog is so anyone can SAY they breed working dogs. Would a UDX GSD be any less a working dog than a GSD that has no titles or has not proven itself in any tangable way? Should it be enough for a breeder to say - I breed working dogs because I say so or because one of the hundreds of dogs I've bred is/was a "police dog"?
