I agree Joanro there are some that justify these high priced 1500 to 5000 dollar pups simply because they come out of titled parents when in many case they end up with worse dogs than pups that cost under 1000 . Some pup buyers have more money than they have smarts and to many of these large working kennels are tooooo eager to sell to buyers that dont know any better.

True. And some people won't have it any other way...the more money they pay the more valuable the merchandise.

The asking price for dogs bred by others always seems to be a big issue on this forum. Why is that? Are there REALLY breeders who wouldn't take higher prices for their dogs if they could get them?

Speaking for myself, price is not as important as the quality home the pup is going to. Many times I have given pups to people who will train and develop the dog. I can't see any justification for pups priced at 3 to 5 thousand. Not to mention IPO dogs sold as executive protection dogs being sold to suckers for 25 thousand and up.jmo

5K is a lot to pay for a dog, but I have friends who get 2.5 K to 5 K for their puppies and I don't feel as if they are overpriced.  Every puppy whelped is sold well in advance. They are out of generations of health checked, titled dogs many with breed records for their accomplishment, always  BHOT and HOT. They are trained 2,3 times a week, most have AKC and SV titles.  The breeders spend 5, 6 hours every day working with their dogs. The pups are 100% guaranteed against DM, HD, elbow incongruities. The  pups are not sold until they are at least 4 months old and until they are housebroken and have basic OB training and have their prelim hip  and elbow xrays evaluated as normal by OFA.

If the new buyers are inexperienced in the breed, they are required to spend as least 2 days at the homes of the breeders undergoing orientation and how to procede with their training.  No shipping. After the sale support is always available 24/7 and any dog that doesn't work out will be taken back and a full refund issued. It's not about money for those breeders either and they don't sell their dogs based on titles or bloodlines alone. Those things are only part of the package.

I realize not every breeder is able to offer all of that to a buyer but I think it does serve to prove that it's not fair to say that all higher priced dogs are overpriced. Some are, not all.

EBlitzen, that's wonderful, but a titled young dog can be bought all day for 5000 from EU that already have h/e certified. If your friends sell pups at four months for that, more power to them. That's still crazy high for a pup.

A warrenty can be provided, but nobody can guarantee that dm won't happen or that a pup wont have h/e dysp. If you aren't the one paying 5 grand for a puppy, its easy to say that's not overpriced. Lol. Anyway, that jmo.

Ps. I didnt say that All dogs are over priced at 5 thousand, i gave my opinion that 3-5 k for puppies is not justified.

by Blitzen on 18 September 2015 - 16:09

They do and I'd much rather buy one of their dogs for 5K than a titled dog from Europe that I can't see first with no guarantee for the same price.  Who wouldn't? They have over 150  years in the breed all together and unquestionable reputations. That counts for a lot IMO.

I don't understand your comment about DM, hips and elbows. There are no guaratees the dog won't develop it but if it does, the buyer gets a refund or another dog - their choice.

OK, I'm sold..what's the kennel name with these puppies. I have people call me every day looking for puppies that are in that price range, I'll send them your way.
BTW, how many have you bought from them, and how did the puppies turn out. You give them a very high recommendation, got any pictures of your dogs from them?

Lots of people buy a ticket and go look at dogs in eu to make a purchase, watch the dog work, have it exrayed, then bring the dog home with them...much more sure of what youre getting for 5 grand than paying that for a puppy and have it not work out.
