This is a portion of the letter sent to all GSDCA members.......

"The new President of the SV/WUSV, Professor Doctor Heinrich Messler, presided at the World Union meeting and explained his plan for the world-wide future of the breed.  Basically, he asked that the world be divided into regions with a representative Director for each to relay breed status and common issues & solutions.  Dr. Goldfarb has been appointed the Regional Director for the North American region.

"Dr. Messler is adamant about everyone having an equal chance to compete in the show ring AND the working arena.

"Dr. Messler was intrigued by dock diving and some of the other new events that will stimulate interest & activity.

He mentioned that there would be a world WUSV Agility event and a world WUSV Obedience event in 2016."

Agility and OB?? Just missing nose work and some others now! Awesome, I love it.

I think it's great too, vonrivera. It might get a lot more GSD owners involved in training and showing their dogs.

I agree.

anyone care to venture a guess how this might impact on breeding choices for folks that want to excel with a GSD in these venues and how it relates to what many hold as the unique traits of the breed.

will we see more friendly, extreme prey driven social dogs AKA sporty high achievers that seem to so maligned by some here??

I hope it takes off this time, back in 2012 the WUSV had planned a agility trial but it failed due to lack of participation

by bebo on 17 September 2015 - 22:09

it didn't fail because of a lack of participation. it was canceled because wusv leadership deemed the participation numbers insufficient and cancelled the event pretty much at the last minute. as an alternative, the german team et al organized the inaugural dsh cup, which is still going strong. despite the short notice, the event was quite successful and had plenty of teams participate form all over europe as well as canada and russia.

vk I think that depends on how much weight the SV places on OB and agility, etc. I'm guessing the same dogs that do well in IPO will be the same dogs that do well in OB et al.

The SV's North American Region includes the United States, Canada and the Caribbean. Dr. Goldfarb, for those that may not know, is a former full SV Breed Judge. He is currently a licensed AKC GSD Judge as well as a licensed WUSV Breed Judge. In addition to his other Breed Related Activiites he is also in charge of the GSDCA's SV Conformation Program. He is the proud owner of 5 times VA, Nino vom Tronje SchH3. (3 times SV VA, 1 x USCA VA, and 1 x GSDCA VA)

So that no one chooses to take a negative position involved with my mention of Dr. Goldfarb being a WUSV Breed Judge. We are fortunate in this country to have 2 WUSV Breed Judges. Dr.Goldfarb and Helen Gleason both hold the distinction. Both are also Board of Director members of the GSDCA.
