I,m not asking for any thing new. Actually just what was before. :)

Blitzen you have never heard anyone here post about the general demise of the breed ??? Surely you jest. My point was IF there is such a reduction in quality then surely some portion of responsibility must land in the laps of the official breed directors eg Dr Goldfarb who preside over the quality of judges and inadvertently set the standard and direction of the breed.

Didn't think that would be complicated or controversial.

Bob, I hear you - but at the end it´s always about the owners and the breeders.
I´m tired of people breeding without ANY proof, tired of all the excuses why they don´t title at all.
And exactly the same people are telling me that our system is corrupt and useless ( some weeks later the same people are buying a dog from Germany because the dog is out of titled parents, and it´s a good dog ).
I´d love to see a more stringent breed survey, but for whom? The people who care, always did and always will do, the people who never cared, will run away as fast as they can, while still blaming the system.

vk4gsd: Until earlier this month, Dr. Goldfarb was in no position of official authority with the SV. He has since been appointed SV Regional Director for the United States, Canada and the Caribbean which is referred to by the SV as North America. He is the leader of the GSDCA's SV Breed Judges program and he and Helen Gleason are our countries only two WUSV Breed Judges. As a note, we have those two breed judges but this country has no WUSV Licensed Working Dog Judges, which is next to shameful in my unofficial and humble opinion. USCA needs to have their judges (both show and work) take a look at the value or this WUSV offering as does the GSDCA-SV program judges. The WUSV provides a training and qualification evaluation at least once each year for licensed judges from WUSV member clubs to attend and become certified as WUSV Judges. They offer this for Show and Working Dog judges alike. I suspect the hope for the SV/WUSV  is that the really good judges will continue to judge and better uniformity in the judging evaluations will come about throughout the world.

Before some one who has been waiting with bated breath for the opportunity flame someone on here; this country does have several SV and SVF working dog judges but none with WUSV licensure.

Blitzen: Sorry for not responding sooner. I agree with your assessment of Goldfarb, Gleason and Fasano. They do have the interest of the breed at heart.

what is the difference between these? Isnt the WUSV an offshoot of the SV??

Cutaway:

The WUSV is an offshoot of the SV. The SV, however, is the German Shepherd Dog Club for the nation of Germany. The WUSV is an organization of German Shepherd Dog Clubs from throughout the world. Oversight of the WUSV is performed by the SV and the WUSV Headquarters in the SV Headquarters in Augsburg, Germany.  Individuals can be members of the SV but individuals are not members of the WUSV. The member clubs send their representative(s) to the meeting(s) of the WUSV. The President of the SV is the President of the WUSV.

An SV judge can judge in any of world's countries including Germany. (some refer to an SV Judge as a full SV Judge)

An SVF judge is a foreign judge; meaning that he/she may judge any where in the world other than Germany. I believe in some cases SVF judges have judged working dog championships held in Germany. SVF judges are often referred to " Ausland Richterin" , meaning the Judges for out of the country.

Thats why i train the way i do Suit work. Vertical Walls, Real gun shots, Real pressure, Visits to Nursing homes and public gatherings and still do IPO. There isn,t a good reason why it can,t be a test but i won,t change how i train for a political issue. :)

I agree with the philosophy and potential outcome of this approach, but how do you deal with insurance?  A bite-work trained dog would not be covered by any policy, if something were to happen in that nursing home (both your private coverage and the facility that you are visiting would deny a claim due to your dogs background).

but at the end it´s always about the owners and the breeders.

There is a mild solutions that could be enforced by the GSDCA and USCA in the USA.  The OFA/CHIC could be made mandatory for US bred German Shepherds, being issued a scorebook and competing in IPO (especially if the SV supports it in some official way on their end).  The GSDCA would also have to elevate the KKL officially in some way to be comparable with some of the AKC conformation titles and the Temperment Test (TC) would also need to become more difficult to pass.

Basically, no CHIC, no scorebook and after a  grandfathering period, future dogs born to Sires and Dams without CHIC numbers would also be denied a scorebook.  The CHIC would also have to be logged into scorebooks, in some uniform way, as well, so GSD's with an AWDF scorebook could prove that CHIC was done before being able to enter a GSDCA or USCA trial.  Sure it won't stop most AKC breeders that don't trial and while not as good as the IPO/KKL it could be better than nothing.

Momo:

I know my dogs I know which i can take and which ones i can,t. You can step out of your front door and get hit by a bolt of lighting. The breed is supposed to be safe in crowds, situations ect. We have been going to Nursing Homes, Church groups, Public outings, ect... for years. Yes i,m well aware that things can happen but i trust my dogs. The more work you expose them to the better chance you have of accidents not happening.
