Shawnicus, what are you talking about, 'most breeders want to sell dogs to people like me.' ?  people who want a serious dog buy pups from me. Show me where I've 'ruined the breed'.

Mith,

the problem is your dark ages attitude. You can get advice from anyone you chose, but keep your sexist/racist remarks to yourself....you're no Larry Wilmore.

Shawni you go it right:

"Joan , it's it is what it is , most women aren't capable of having dogs like that and they shouldn't either , not doing the breed any favors "

by beetree on 13 May 2016 - 17:05

The owner toled (sic) me most rank and file trainers don't know how to train these type of dogs.

This is the biggest cliché, ever told by the

... people who don´t know anything about training and temperament tend to describe the inacceptable behavior of their mentally disturbed pet as "serious" and "hard".

Mith and Shawn, most people, including most men, aren't capable of having a dog 'like that'.
That's why the machisimo males who think they want one, fall for the hyp of 'pure DDR' and 'serious' 'for real' sales pitches found all over the web. And they love to talk about how their spoiled dog won't stand for the vet to examine them.

Now isn't that the biggest load of bullshit I've ever heard. I have a civil, hard dog who is also very biddable. He's not a house dog and likely never will be. He will protect, it is his training (not IPO). Hes also stable around people, not social... neutral. Is he perfect, nope. But he's everything I could ask for.

Mithuna, isn't it you that has trouble controlling your own bitch? Bitch wants to eat people or some crap? Yeah, you have no room to talk about what kind of dog a woman should own.

So, putting police dogs on the street is not doing the breed any favor? I'm pretty sure Joan has her share of "real" dogs working. I know I do.

Smdh. What a bunch of hooey.

@Joan, they are only thinking with their little heads.

Said nothing about your gender or sexual preference Mithuna. Still doesn't change the fact you can't control your own bitch.

Mithuna, you may not believe this, but maybe Duke or any other knowledgeable "man" ( broker ) is willing to testify...

Most of the German Shepherd dogs sold to police ( or brokers ) because the owner/handler gave up ( agression, civil ) at least in Germany ( that´s the country I know about ) are sold by men, not by women.

Sold housedogs/pet dogs = family decision = no training at all, but well socialized, the jackpot for any broker
Sold IPO dogs = handler decision = mostly men ( although the majority of handlers are women )

Why? They ( the men ) either gave up, or they screwed the dog up, because they were not able to handle it accordingly, whereas women tend to think, learn, and act accordingly.

Sad where this thread went. I live with a woman that could put every male’s handling and training here to shame with her own skills and abilities. She’s a better tracking and obedience trainer than anyone here and more than likely can read a dog better than 95% of the people on this forum when it comes to protection work.

I highly doubt most of the people claiming to have “hard/civil” dogs have one. More than likely it’s a dog that is just out of control because the handler can’t train proper obedience without destroying any kind of protection drive the dog might have and so they choose to not put pressure in obedience in order to still have some resemblance of power during protection. Or if the dog is one of those “PPD” dogs, they just chose to ignore obedience all together in order to get people to think they have an out of this world, once in a lifetime animal.

“Pussyfication of Schutzhund” is a statement started by men, who can’t get the obedience/control required in order to sniff a podium these days and it gives them an excuse as to why their dogs aren’t trained well enough to compete. Most of their dogs just can’t handle the pressure necessary to get that type of control and would shut down on them if they even tried to train them in the proper way. Easier for them to dismiss what others do than to step up to the plate and learn something new about handling/training.
