Has anyone started a list of quality breeders? If not, can we and is there a place where we can store this list for all to find? I know it would help a lot because many of us are looking for the old style german shepherd from rin tin tin and even a tv show I used to watch called Run Joe Run. I believe the dog, Joe, was also a straight backed GSD. Let's ban together and make a list so that people will know who to contact and who to avoid.

The list sounds reeeeeeeeally stupid. How about getting off the internet and television and go to working venues and seeing what dogs work.

Education is truly impossible in dog world its no wonder greeders, bullshit artists and conmen have such an easy time raping you people.

Dude a straight back is no more a sign of quality than pigment is of working ability, a reverse mask is of aggression or size is of power, faaark, television is not reality.

Why is it stupid? I'm not the only one who doesn't want a roach backed dog that we know is going to have problems a few years down the road. I'm not the only one who has lost a dog to DM, which didn't appear until we started to change the breed. I want to avoid problems with the hips. And guess who I know is proud to screen for most of these problems? People who breed quality dogs that have nothing to hide. Just recently I was on a website for a breeder of black GSD. They were beautiful but the breeder only mentioned that his dogs were from such and such a line. Now why would I, in my right mind, spend $3500 for a dog without doing my due dilligence? And if you call the list stupid then you probably think I'm stupid for wanting to help people. Especially since I've gone through the forum and seen several people asking about straight-backed dogs.

Also, don't call me dude. I do not know you and I'm not fifteen years old. If you don't like my suggestion, maybe pass on this thread and go troll another. Ok?

Can't resist adding that some of the 'straight' backed GSDs around - those that look so flat they are like coffee tables LOL - are prone to precisely the same back troubles (eg shot spinal disks) you regret in Dachshunds on your other thred, because those backs can be so weak.

By "Straight back" if you meant a straight line from wither to croup, all the American ski-sloped dogs are straight backed.

My idea of straight back is a straight true-back slightly curving to meet the loin-back and the loin-back slightly curving to meet the croup.

If you meant a parallel to the ground straight line from wither to croup, no way it can meet the croup without a starkly visible break in the topline.

K, I will troll another thread. Good luck with finding your straight back dog like the one you saw on a television show, you have really done your homework.

I'm sure the mods will love hosting a definitive list of good and bad breeders.

I've already found two, decent kennels that breed straight backed GSD's thank you. I was thinking of others when I created this post.

Here's your straight-backed GSDS:

Be careful what you wish for. These dogs are almost all over 100 lbs., and are NOT bred according to any known standard of the GSD.

Many of the breeders who breed for a straight back also breed for long coats, and off colours, like liver, blue and white, in addition to large size. Where they got the idea that German shepherds of the past were that big and heavy, I have NO IDEA!
