Hired Dog

Exceptions will always exist, of course, but, they are rare, especially in our end of the world and of course a dog should have all the qualities you listed, just in case.

@Q man, i like Fero but there are too many dogs that have Fero in their pedigree many are good. Fero looks like hes gonna be Sven vom Grafental in the future where people are gonna say we are looking for Fero free dogs.

dont know where max tiekerhook fits in this conversation, but unkas and paska produced many nice dogs for LE, strong, civil, clearheaded dogs, with recognizable traits, not allways for first time handlers

Page 2 and no one answers anything about Salztalblick dogs and the thread has already devolved into the definition game.

Pirchang, may we count your answer as one of the ones you are speaking of?

by Pirschgang on 21 August 2020 - 20:08

Depends on your definition of "count" and "answer"

xPyrotechnic, people were already seeking Fero-free dogs twenty years ago, because he was so frequently found in the pedigrees, so you're not asking for the impossible.

When you speak of vom Salztalblick, keep in mind that you're really speaking of multiple kennels-- vom Salztalblick, vom Salztal-Höhe, and vom Haus Salztalblick.  Vom Saltztalblick   So your question really encompasses a very large breeding operation, and there's going to be a wider range of type and temperament than most lines. That said, I don't think I've ever heard anyone complain that their v Salztal[fill in the blank] dog was weak or too soft.

pirshang, maybe read the post before yours LOL

Re: Fero - when are we going to learn that if a little bit of a certain dog in a pedigree is good, having the dog (and its descendants, Troll, Timmy, etc.) 10 or 15 times in the pedigree isn't necessarily better?

The WL people have done to themselves exactly what the ASL people did with Lance and his descendants, and the German SL people did with Palme, Quanto, Canto and the other handful of dogs behind the show lines.

It's reached the point where this genetic bottleneck is never going to disappear. And in my opinion, that's NOT a good thing.

and yet, there are breeders still turning out GSD able to work.

and still people who need those dogs to work, able to recognize and procure them and put them to work.

ain't real life funny sometimes.

jmo,
Rik
