Has anyone ever kept track if certain bloodlines of German Shepherd have a high incidence of this cancer in their lines?

The UK Breed Health Co-ordinator is doing some work on this. When we talked about it, it was clear there are some indications of a genetic link.

Not sure to what extent there is an overlap if you are posting from the US or somewhere else, Ziva.

Personally, I owe her some info on a family line of dogs where the genetic connection looked extremely likely, but as these were not used commercially to produce pups there is little risk of them spreading haemangiosarcoma around, and their value to research is more a backfill of information on their ancestry.

[Also one of our scientists was showing interest a couple of years ago, I don't know if he is still working on it. I can't remember his name now but will try to find it and come back with details if I can find them.]
