wanting to buy a puppy - Page 1

really want to buy a Rottweiler puppy and the only one I've found so far from another country. And I'm so nervous about being scammed and ripped off. I am sure that the breeder is trust worthy but its the little doubt I have. what do I do?
I like a Rottweiler with a shorter muzzle, not oversized and a docked tail along with more of a neck just not a head sitting on the shoulders. Puppy brokers charge over almost 1500 over all other fees.

I would advise you not to focus so much on appearance, focus on the temperament of the dog.

You should post the name of the breeder as other members might be able to shed some light...

Have you tried the PDB's Rottweiler Forum, Kelcole ? I would think there would be some breeders listed there, too, with litters on the ground; plus if you are corresponding with the Rottie people rather than us (mainly) GSD nutz, you might get some 'real-life' contacts, and tips on who the better breeders are. I find it difficult to believe there is really only one puppy on your radar so far, unless you are a resident of some small island in the middle of an ocean, or you have only been looking for five minutes - they are not exactly a rare breed ? And if you want it docked but you find a breeder who normally does not dock tails, (a lot don't these days, either through preference or legislation where they are), then it is worth having a conversation about getting a docked puppy from a proposed litter and waiting a couple of months. Good luck in your search.

Still, now your post is there, you can use the list of breeders ! And you will get the attention & help of other Rottweiler people, like babbles ^. Who has a point by the way, looks ain't everything.

Looking for a breeder that docks tails virtually eliminates you from breeders trying to abide by the German ADRK standard. Humans and other dogs can read a Rottweiler with a tail better, and it might give a slight edge in keeping the dog out of trouble.

Whatever - you were right to point out that buyers should not only focus on what their pups are going to LOOK like, but think: are they healthy and 'fit for function', depending on the life planned for them.

Irrelevantly to the breed, a prospective paw parent should RESEARCH-RESEARCH-RESEARCH oh and did i mention RESEARCH?! kelcole are you listening?! ;)

Make sure that the breeder you buy from, produces healthy and sound dogs, also that they produce dogs that fit your own purpose. i.e if you want a pet don't go to a working line breeder and vice versa.

Be prepared to hear a lot of BS and sales talk, use common sense...

If the pup is strong steady on all surfaces playfull up tp date worm and injectetion up to date mother and father are healthy cant be mush bs after all that dont buy anything over the net go c for yourself and most importantly know exactly what u want and expect to c in the pup u are looking at

thank you all for informative responses pertaining to my post and endless search for a Rottweiler puppy. I for many years always owned a German Shepherd and to this today continue to fall in love with the breed each time I see one. But back in 1999 I underwent chemotherapy for many months, to sick to leave home and chemically depressed to reach out for help. As time went by I continued the fight tears of despair that visited daily and over stupid things like a wanted a sandwich but had not bread. To sick to go buy a loaf at the corner store a mile away. At my lowest point went I was ready to give up all hope my brother dropped off puppy. A Rottweiler puppy, a female puppy I asked what am I going to do with that. I kept her and called her Diva. She was so calm and mellow it was like she knew when I had good days and my bad days, yet she stayed by my side and waited patiently. I talked to her like a person and she learned to answer my questions of yes or no by shaking her head. Also to keep her company on my down times I gave her a stuff blue walrus which is cuddled with and carried around like a newborn even thou she was still a pup herself. She had a very strong maternal instinct for her stuff toy now her baby. 10 months into chemo I relapsed and was heading down hill fast it was during this time that same day I got the news from the doctor I lost her. she was born with a defective heart. A pup herself she broke my heart never have I cried for an animal but that day I couldn't stop the tears. to this day I still have her stuffed toy, her baby. I tell you this for one reason back in 2011 I was hurt and now disabled and stay home a lot because of pain. I'm looking for a companion that will stay with me, travel me and listen to my complaints without judgment. Sure I'm looking for certain physical traits but at the same time looking for that I will know its the one when I see her. thru expression and some physical traits I found one owned by Viktor Buga from Hungary. Not sure how reputable he is as a breeder. If you see his ad and picture of the puppies she has the red ribbon. So answer your question I've been looking for almost 5 years now get lost again in the German Shepherd world especially on this site, so many beautiful dogs.
