Lisa I am sorry that anyone thought that they had the right to chew you a new one because you had a difference of ideas.

When starting pups on gruel I use Earthborn and Evo Red meat with no problems then I switch them to a raw diet that is heavy with edible bones.  Now I don;t think that the Calcium content in the dog foods will be more than that.

It is really about the balance between the Calcium and Phosphorus ratio more than the total amounts.

Since I started feeding raw to the pups from birth and that I  have kept I have not yet had a bad OFA or A stamp.

Laura and Lisa,
Thank you for the information! I contacted the company for samples, so I will see how my dogs like it.

For kibble the only thing I can honestly recommend is Orijen or Acana. If you know a lot about balance, the raw is the way to go.

Fry, did you have to call the company, or did you just email them?

vonrivera, i think any method of contact would work. Like i said it's worth the company's time to give you a few bags of kibble. (About 1/2 cups or each) in the hopes that your pet will like it and you will become a customer. Also lots of pet shops and dog shows offer free samples. If you cna get into one of the big trade shows. You can go home with lots of sample stuff. Talk to the venders and don't be ashamed to ask about ingredients and for samples.

How weird! Barb, we feed Earthborn grain-free & the same EXACT thing is happening to us with multiple dogs--all have black, weird-textured poop & 3 of the dogs turn to gobble the poops before they're even finished going.  We thought they were eating lizards or bushes in the yard.  One of the dogs gets all excited after grabbing a mouthful & keeps jumping up trying to lick my face--& sometimes he succeeds (YUCK!)
