How soon do you expect papers to arrive from Germany for an imported pup? What is the latest? Thank you.

by SGBH on 12 November 2004 - 04:11

I live in the USA and normally when I bring an 8 week old puppy back to the states, the papers accompany the puppy. It has, however, taken up to two months after I returned with the puppy for the paperwork to catch up with the animal. IF you are in the USA and plan on registering the dog with the AKC(puppy or grown dog), you will ALSO have to request a Bescheinigung(proof of transfer), from the SV(Germany) and submit a photocopy of that to the AKC before they will complete the AKC registration process. That will take another 2-3 weeks for that piece of paperwork. The Bescheinigung will cost around 15 Euro(18USD).

Hi, Yes u have to have a Beischeinigung that cost extra about 25.00 u.s. and copy all SV papers submit to AKC copies only, apply for foreign registration , two photos colored of dog front and side, check for $40.00 sent into foreign registration and wait. They do not want anything originial from the SV only copies of all sides of the Korzucht-Leistungszucht-Ahentafel pink paper. Copy all four sides, fill out foreign application, two photos, check for amount and on evelope say Attention Foreign: It takes about a month to go through if all if filled out properly. If u do not hear soon, contact the SV and ask for the English Speaker and find out the Hold up? The pup may not be SV registered, did u check before bringing it over here? I hope so, for then DNA is necessary and alot of crap to get AKC papers. Ask in Customer Service what to do to get your pups papers from SV. They cannot call out but they will tell you who to call or what to do. Good Luck it is alot of hassell to bring one from Germany these days, the Euro is much higher than our U.S. dollar. I wish you the best and fastest way.

My pup shipped from Germany (Frankfurt) back in mid August. It took 6 weeks to get my SV pink papers. The breeder took care of everything and mailed the papers to me the next day after she recieved them from the SV. My next step is to register with AKC once I have the Beischeinigung. Hope all works out good for you and your papers come soon. I've heard that waiting several months is not all that uncommon at some times of the year regarding the SV.

It can take a very long time. A couple of months is quick in my experience. The SV is often very slow. I have seen it drag on for 6 months amazing as that might seem. The best advice is what you received and that is after 2 months to call the SV office and try and speed things along

Never waited longer than 3-4 wks...the breeder in Germany should handle all that and all should come together. They submit the change of ownership to the SV. Amazing how, for AKC registration, you need a pic for a PINK PAPERED GSD that is tattooed and registered with the largest GSD registry, yet a US born pup needs not even to be permanently identified (tattooed or microchipped) before it leaves the breeder.....:(

>Never waited longer than 3-4 wks...the breeder in >Germany should handle all that and all should come >together. I have been importing SV dogs from Germany since 1984 and I have ALWAYS had to request the Bescheinigung from the SV, myself. Not once did a breeder provide the Bescheinigung, which is required by the AKC, for registration.

ouch

by Makosh on 14 November 2004 - 05:11

What kind of pictures? Stack? Or of the face as in prison photo? : )

by sunshine on 14 November 2004 - 05:11

Makosh, contact AKC directly. They will tell you exactly what you need. I transferred an adult female from Germany when I moved here and it was so unbelievably simple. She is a spayed female and was not for breeding purposes but the paperwork flowed like oil. I got a Bescheinigung from Germany and took side photos of her that identified this bitch. Contrary to SGBH, breeders familiar to importing dogs to the USA, include the Bescheinigung required for registration with AKC automatically. The Fullers of the Kirschental Kennnels include a complete price including all required documentation. But they are just unquestionable in their practices and experience. Anyone heard of an unhappy vom Kirschental owner? Sunny
