FEMA K9's indicate live human scent by staying at the victim and barking (Except most victims are hidden in training unlike the video that showed the dog locating a victim in view), the indication behavior is almost exact to a schutzhund, hold and bark. Much of the FEMA evaluation process has close association to schutzhund. Almost all FEMA K9s are tug rewarded, absolutely the same as rewarding the barking behavior with the sleeve.  Not all schutzhund dogs will make good USAR dogs. Not all Schutzhund dogs make good police dogs. Not all police dogs make a good USAR dog or a good schutzhund dog. All K9s need to be independently evaluated. Yes, some best gsds and mals in the FEMA system, have schutzhund foundation and some are titled too.

BTW, FSA is not considered a FEMA certification (at the federal level). The bitch is not a FEMA certified dog in the FEMA system. If I read this correctly , they are planning on testing her at an upcoming FSA which is a pretest required before she can be Type 1 certified, if they were at the federal level. It appears that they are working at a state level and perhaps the FSA is considered "certified" at that level.

Just like they are planning on getting her Sch1 in the near future. All of this is upcoming, not completed.

The handler keeps sending from the same spot with same victim? why?

Also, where does it show she was Three Times World KNPV Champion, 3e is she placed third, not three times champion. And if she is Three Times World KNPV Champion what was the years?

If this dog was Three Times World KNPV Champion, it would read champion and all the trials would be listed. Jack Puts helps run the bloedlijnen web page and I'm sure he would have listed his dogs achievements.

I don't think the handler sent the dog to the same spot. Its hard to tell with chunky rubble like that, because it all looks the same. Can't really bury the victim on that stuff either unless they find something to cover him. The dog shows no footing issues and uses her nose to locate him then barks at an exposed victim, which is normal work for most mals. Good basic urban search dog foundation just as the schutzhund video shows lots of fun prey bites. Nothing really challenging or worth writing home about, but a normal working mal.

FEMA K9 certification is not a dog sport trial title.

by F150 on 13 January 2009 - 14:01

BTW, FEMA K9 certification is an Urban Search and Rescue K9 certification for deployment not an apprehension/patrol K9 cert.
